Downing a Malconvoker
« on: May 20, 2015, 02:39:26 PM »
Ok, I am running a campaign that involves a fair number of Tier One players... the usual gamut.  Now I have found all sorts of ways of dealing with the other Tier One and Zero classes.  However, I am having issues with creating a suitable challenge for the Malconvoker.  He is very well played and planned.  Short of throwing another Malconvoker at him (cheezy) a Druid (which is tangling with another Tier one so don't want to double up) I am lost.

So please anybody with any class ideas or builds that could challenge a Malconvoker if not out right kill.  I ask for the kill cause the player really knows his rules and can probably out lawyer me if it comes to a PK.

I am open to anything....

Thanks.

Send and Abjurer to kill a Conjurer.
Initiate of the Sevenfold Veil.  Magic Circle against evil and Banish.  Use veils to survive anything that sneaks through.

not to sure about the power of things Malconvoker can summon / gate to fight for him but couldnt ya fight fire with fire with a greenbound ash bound summoner focused druid?

Have you introduced any psions? erudite spell to power psions to be more specific?

I'd almost be tempted to just throw tons of brutes at him.  That might not take him down, but it will pit strength against strength and keep him interested and engaged but also neutralize him in the fight.

That's assuming that the super-powered brute squad is the thing he's bringing to the table.  Meaning that he's got the advantages of being a powerful wizard plus a cadre of pretty tough fightery types, which I thought to be the appeal of Malconvoker.

A counter-spell or dispel/banish specialist?  This would force him to not depend on his summoned brutes during the fight.  Sure he's still a high level wizard, but most of his memorized spells will probably be support spells for his summons rather than stuff to deal with the enemy directly.

At what level are we talking about? And what kind of personal defenses does he have? Just a decent stealthy, long-ranged archer might be able to threaten him fairly effectively...
