Shadow Sorc Build
« on: November 04, 2015, 04:15:08 PM »
Hello,

I'm making a Shadow Sorc. What's the best way to Min/Max this guy? Is Multiclassing necessary?

Input is appreciated!

Depends on what it is you want to do.

For dips I'd consider Warlock and Fighter. Antagonizing Eldritch Blast will out damage all of the Sorcerer Cantrips and if you use Undying Light you can net cha-to-damage with fire spells for a little bit more damage when using your slots. Then the new Fighting Style in Underdark works with Ranged Spell Attacks and Action Surge is always nice.

Sorc 20 is viable.

Dipping requires a plan, preferably a good plan, otherwise you're just sitting and spinning.

Shadow sorc is new, what do you wanna do with it?

Hmm...
Winged Tiefling Bear Totem Barbarian 1 / Shadow Sorcerer 1 / Close Quarters Shooting Devotion Paladin 6 / Undying Light Blade Warlock 12
Feats: Great Weapon Master
Items: Ioun Stone of Mastery(A), Belt of Storm Giant Strength(A).
Blessings: Protection.

* Defensively it has Resistance to most forms of damage while Raging. It has up to +18 to Constitution Saves allowing it to fend off dropping from anything less than 28 damage at once. And it can fly out of reach.
* Offensively it can use Antagonizing Blast to deal up to 4d10+20 (42) as a Ranged Attack with a +1 Bonus to Attack rolls and it ignores Cover/Conceal on targets within 30ft. When it comes to fighting up close, it can use Channel Divinity for cha-to-attack followed by the ever popular choice of Greatsword wielded Greenflame Blade which deals 1[W]+21+3d8+15/+3d8+5 (56/18 or 74 total) or just bash them with the sword anyway for 2d6+26*2 (66)

Probably a bit less Sorcerer than you're wanting through.

I'd like to eventually acquire the ShadowSorc's level 18 ability, but other than that.. I just want to be a super strong caster that can bounce all over the place at later levels ;) I haven't played a Sorcerer before, but I've played about everything else.

2nd-ing

* Resilient
Unless you're starting as a Fighter your going to want this to add your Proficiency bonus to those Constitution Saving Throws

Sorc gets Con too, but Resilient for Wis is a good idea anyways.
coffee hadn't kicked in yet , eh?

* Deck of Many Things
How is your deck stacking skills or forced draws? :sh :devil

Uh-oh, the Deck causes problems in every edition.

* Sword of Sharpness
Technically the only RAW way to dis-Arm your opponent.  :drums

Nah, was too lazy to look it up. Unfortunately the Sorcerer is out performed in virtually every area and repeatedly bludgeoned by nerfs from the Sage or Errata so I haven't paid too much attention to it.

SCAG's release of the Arcane Domain didn't help either, specially since I dislike the Storm Sorcerer. Underdark has been the first real positive I've seen outside of the few Spells that have been added to 5th, none of which are exclusives.
