Spells that give a to-hit bonus??
« on: December 20, 2011, 10:15:27 PM »
Hello everyone, I am preparing a game session for my group, and I would like to know what spells are out there that give attack bonuses, but are not related to ability-score bonuses, so far I got:

(Greater) Heroism
Good Hope
Righteous Wrath of the Faithful
Recitation
(Greater) Magic Weapon/Fang
Divine Favor
Divine Power
True Strike
Moment of Prescience
Improvisation

The NPC that's gonna be fighting the party has a crazy UMD score, so don't worry about spell lists, the rules are something like 3.5 (mostly like 3.5, actually), but I am open to Pathfinder and will check it if it comes up.

Thanks from beforehand.

While not exactly a bonus, Wraithstrike will make attacks more accurate since it's against Touch AC.

Nevermind, missed the first spell on your list!

Heroics could be used to get feats like Weapon focus. Not a direct bonus, but works. Invisibility and its relatives are even more indirect and situational, but they can be used on occasion. Blink makes others flat-footed, so worth considering.

Tenser's Transformation works like Divine power, so that could be counted.

Inspired aim from BoED gives a bonus on ranged attacks. Good hope from the same book gives bonuses very similar to Heroism. Bless is straight from core, that does the trick too. SpC's Targeting ray grants insight bonus, which is neat.

Not actually a spell, but if your NPC can spare a feat, Law Devotion can provide a handy bonus to attack.

And also from Complete Champion is Surge of Fortune.  Gives you a +2 Luck (I think) bonus to basically everything, and you can discharge the spell as an immediate action to get a natural 20 on your next roll.  Who needs bonuses to hit when you can guarantee an auto-hit? ;)

I don't think anyone's mentioned the spells that grant bonuses to abilities yet.  Granted, you probably have an item that already grants enhancement bonuses, but if you don't...

Balmas,

...but are not related to ability-score bonuses...

OP explicitly asked about ones *not* related to abilities.

As for spells...I think Bless does that too.

I think the big one from the list is the Improvisation (Given very high caster level).  IIRC, it's a luck bonus (I might be wrong, but it was one of those rare category bonus), and you can get high bonus to roughly 4 attacks.

Also, Heroics are really nice in many ways.  Remember you can get an access to ToB Maneuvers (As long as you can satisfy the reqs), so dumpster-diving there is also a possibility...

Bless and prayerRecitation overrides prayer though.

Aid is a one-man bless, but with temp HP too.

Surge of Fortune is personal range only.
