Effigy, Awakened(prc)
Prerequisites:Effigies normally are simple replicas of other beings with none of the original’s memories and no mind of their own. But sometimes an Effigy does develop their own mind, or perhaps the original one’s consciousness is somehow transferred to an effigy body, by design or fortune. Darker tales yet tell of creatures having their bodies slowly replaced by artificial parts bit by bit until there’s nothing left of their original body yet their soul remains. Either way the final result is the same, an independent Effigy able to think and act on its own.
Ability: Constitution 10+
Type: Must be a corporeal abberation, animal, dragon, giant, humanoid, magical beast, monstrous humanoid or vermin.
Size: Between Tiny and Gargantuan.
Special: Crafting the Effigy’s body demands somebody with the Craft Construct feat to succeed in a DC 15 Craft check (woordworking, leatherworking or metalwork) or a DC 15 Knowledge (Arquitecture and engineering) check and building materials in the form of exotic woods, leather, metal and wires worth 200 GP per HD of the creature to be turned into an Effigy plus an extra amount based on the creature’s size.
Tiny-50 GP.
Small-100 GP
Medium-200 GP
Large-500 GP
Huge-1000 GP
Gargantuan-2500 GP
Colossal-5000 GP
It is possible to use cheaper materials to craft the Effigy’s body worth only 1/100 of the above costs, but in that case the character’s mind will not be properly synchronized with the body and both Int and Cha will fall to 1, unable to be increased by any means, while Wis can never be higher than 11. At any time with 1d12 days of work the cost difference may be paid to “upgrade” the effigy to full functionality in which case the the chracter’s mental scores return to normal.
HD:d10
Level | Base Attack Bonus | Fort Save | Ref Save | Will Save | Special |
1st | +0 | +0 | +0 | +0 | Effigy Body, Effigy Plating, True Replica, +4 Strength, -2 Dex |
Skills: The Effigy gains (2+Intelligence Modifier) skill points per level. The Effigy’s class skills (and key ability for each skill) are Bluff (Cha), Climb (Str), Craft(any) (Int), Diplomacy (Cha), Handle animal (Wis), Hide (Dex), Jump (Str), Knowledge (any) (Int), Listen (Wis), Move silently (Dex), Profession (any), Spot (Wis), Survival (Wis), Swim (Str) plus any other class skills from previous class levels.
Proficiencies: The Effigy is proficient with any natural weapons it may gain from this class, however it does not gain any new armor proficiencies.
Class Features: The following are the Class Features of the Effigy
Effigy Body: The Effigy’s creature type changes to Construct and gains the following traits. Do not recalculate anything not covered in there.
The Effigy has no Constitution score.
# The Effigy gain Darkvision out to 60 feet.
# The Effigy has immunity to all mind-affecting effects.
# The Effigy has immunity to poison, sleep effects, paralysis, stunning, disease, death effects, and necromancy effects.
# The Effigy is not subject to critical hits, nonlethal damage, ability drain, ability damage, fatigue or exhaustion, or energy drain.
# The Effigy cannot heal damage on its own, although it can be healed.
# The Effigy has immunity to any effect that requires a Fortitude save (unless the effect also works on objects or is harmless).
# The Effigy is not at risk of death from massive damage, but when reduced to 0 hit points or less, it is immediately destroyed.
# The Effigy, having had its body and soul befouled by that of which animated to slap-shod limb, cannot be raised or resurrected. It can only be revived by a wish, limited wish, or miracle spell or effect.
The Effigy does not breathe, eat, or sleep.
# Since it is not alive, an Effigy cannot be raised or resurrected except for limited wish, wish and miracle. The 1st makes the Effigy lose a level, the other two don't.
#However, it can be "repaired" if destroyed by spending 24 hours of work and 500 GP of materials, which make it lose a level.
The Effigy can also choose to gain either a single slam attack that adds +1,5 Str mod to damage or two slam attacks each adding just Str mod to damage. Either way they deal 1d4 base damage for medium size.
Since an effigy is crafted from materials tougher than living flesh, its Natural Armor improves by 2.
Finally it gains +1 HP per HD. This bonus retroatively increases by +1 for every 5 HD of the Effigy.
Effigy Plating: The Effigy gains DR/Adamantine equal to half its HD.
True Replica: Effigies are meant to copy real beings in a way one can tell they’re artificial yet can’t help but to relate them to real thing. The Effigy gains one of the below [Effigy] feats and can gain the other ones with 1d12 days of work by spending 5000 gold and succeeding in a DC 20 Craft check (woordworking, leatherworking or metalwork) or a DC 20 Knowledge (Arquitecture and engineering) check. They may further gain extra [Effigy] feats this way, but each extra one costs double the gold (D&D doubling so 10 000 for second extra, 15 000 for third extra, so on) and increase the skill check DC by an extra 5 for each extra time too. The Effigy need not do the work and skill checks themselves, but must remain immobile while the “upgrade” is on-going and taking any actions will demand the proccess to restart from scratch although the expensive materials may be used again.
Ability Score Increase: The Effigy gains +4 Str but takes a -2 penalty to Dex.
Burn In Effigy[Effigy] Some effigies are crafted just to be lighted on fire.Pre-Requisite: True Replica class feature.
Benefit: As a swift action you can make yourself ignite in flames for 1 round that deal 1d4 fire damage to any you touch or touch you, including hitting you with melee attacks and yourself. This damage increases by 1d4 fire damage per 4 HD. For each extra size category you’re bigger than medium, you may increase this fire damage by 1. If you destroy yourself with this fire damage, you’ll have attracted the goodwill of a community or powerful entity that will rebuild you in 1d12 hours at no cost and no level loss, but no more than 1/day.
Metal Memento[Effigy] ”Some effigies are crafted as signs of power, respect and authority.”Pre-Requisite: True Replica class feature.
Benefit: As a swift action for 1 round you radiate an aura of 30 feet+5 feet per size you’re bigger than medium centered on yourself. Allies (but not yourself) inside gain a morale bonus to attack, damage rolls and Will saves equal to ½ your HD as long as they can see you.
Symbolic Sacrifice[Effigy] Some effigies are crafted to spare the living from worse fatesPre-Requisite: True Replica class feature.
Benefit: You gain a racial bonus on Disguise checks to pass as a creature of your previous race equal to 10+HD. As long as you’re adjacent to an ally of your previous race and you’re disguised as them, if they would suffer any ill effect from an external source, you can suffer it instead as an immediate action (in the case of area or multi-target attacks, you’re only affected once and your ally is not affected). Once per day If you would be destroyed by somebody else, you may attempt a Disguise check opposed by a spot check from them. If you succeed, you’re left at 1 HP instead but can pretend to be dead/destroyed (your choice). Even magic effects will be fooled, including the attacker gaining any benefits that would be gained from killing/destroying the target, but as soon as you act the ruse is over and the benefits are lost.
Efficient Effigy [Effigy] Some effigies are better built than othersPre-Requisite: True Replica class feature, any other [Effigy] feat.
Benefit: Once per round you can acticate an [Effigy] feat as a free action even if it isn’t your turn without needing to spend a swift/immediate action.
Artificial Gift [Effigy] Some effigies are meant to be offered as either blessing or cursePre-Requisite: True Replica class feature, either LG or LE alignment, 3+HD.
Benefit: A number of times per day equal to 1/2 HD+ Wis mod, when you hit or touch a target with your Effigy Slam attack, as an immediate action you can apply a
Gift of your choice as if you were a Magitech Knight of level equal to your HD.
Funeral Figure[Effigy] (WIP)
Some effigies are crafted to remember those that are no longer among us.Pre-Requisite: True Replica class feature.
Benefit: Fear aura? Copy dead one abilities?
Something shorter after the 20 level Valkyrie.
The original Effigy is another “turn into a robot construct” template, particularly infamous for being highly abuseable by players since the cost is based on just HD and size and isn’t that expensive, so you can make an effigy out of a creature with a bunch of other templates that’ll basically come “free”. Which is really against the spirit of the thing since the example effigy is just a lion effigy and not an half-everything effigy so I left that out of this prc.
Compared to the Half-Golem this allows to gain Construct traits without the -6 penalty to Cha along DR/adamantine, a beefy +4 Str at the cost of -2 Dex and a basic slam or two right away. Still felt something was missing so some thematic feats and gave one as a bonus feat.
So if you want to play a magic replica robot, the Effigy’s for you!
