Because we have a topic for everything else...
So, I got a new laptop about two weeks ago. I read some stuff, created a recovery suite of discs, partitioned it out, tried dual booting only to cause GRUB to be loaded only into the Ubuntu partition, fixed my error. My only complaint with 11.10 on my laptop is battery life. I maybe get 2.5 hours out of it when Windows gets around 4.5.
And sometimes tabbing through windows causes a momentary glitch in the display, but it's no big thing. I just need to figure out if/how I can run an Apache environment on here or if that's what I'll be using Windows for...
I finally got all of lolcat pictures and non-lolcat important stuff (my music, documents, tax information, et cetera) loaded into my storage partition and now it's being transfered back over to my "new" (read: my last laptop's harddrive) external storage -- a paltry 250GB compared to the total of 600GB on this computer, 500 of which is just storage. 31,000 files to the tune of 25 megs a second. It's going to take an hour and 15 minutes.
Edit: Not among that 31k of files? A backup of the MySQL database I was using to develop my website.
