General equipment advice: Unarmed Swordsage
« on: November 07, 2011, 09:51:26 AM »
Playing a Strongheart Halfling Unarmed Swordsage a.t.m. who will later go for SSN. My feats so far are: Imp. Unarmed Strike, TWF, Shadow Blade, Weapon Finesse.

I'm looking for advice on equipment for the future (a.tm. we are lvl 4, standard wealth) since I'll probably buy a HHS as well as a pair of Bracers of Armour right now. Been thinking of a Blindfold of True Darkness and possibly a "Darkness Xtimes/day"-item for extra sneakyness.

Any advice? DM seems willing to allow me to pick up a Weapons of Legacy from ToB, are they worth it?

This is a fairly low-op game as 2/3 of the group are noobs, so there is no problem with fun overruling function.

Thanks in advance!

Ring of the Darkhidden?  It's a dead useful item and combos well with the Blindfold.

I'm afb at the moment, but I seem to recall being thoroughly underwhelmed by the tob legacy weapons with the exception of what might have been the diamond mind or iron heart versions, neither of which do you much good.

I'd pick up a collar of umbral metamorphosis, either temporary or not, since the dark template is right up your flavor (and I assume you'll be a sneaky mobile combatant).

Outside of that, with not much in the way of boots, there's a pair in the MIC that's around 2500 I think that allows five 20 ft teleports a day, or burn more charges for fewer but larger jumps. I recall it being a little more than twice as expensive than the anklet of translocation for twice the range and more than twice the uses. So that'd help with mobility.

And it's not as sneaky, but I like carrying the feather tokens for tree, anchor, anything suitably heavy. Instant walls, distractions, destruction when a massive tree appears out of nowhere, or just dropping one on your opponent make these cheap, tiny tokens well worth the piddly few-hundred gold they cost.

You assume correctly

The idea of dropping a tree on someone appeals to me; the character is something of an oddball (I do this to show the noobs what you can do when you know the system and for teh lulz).

Always for the lulz! But don't limit yourselves to trees; there's the multi-obvious-use swan boat, and for cartoon shenanigans, the anchor. I don't see why you couldn't reflavor it into an anvil, if need be.

A Necklace of Natural Weapons from Savage Species would let you add weapon enchants to your fist.

In a game I DMed:

-1 person readied an action to speak the command word on a Quall's Feather Token: Tree.
-1 person used his sling to shoot the token into the dragon's mouth.

The dragon's head imploded.

I think you mean "exploded".  Implosion implies it collapsed in on itself when a tree suddenly appeared in its mouth.
