[3.5] A couple crazy ideas.. Featfull and Pixie Monk
« on: May 19, 2012, 08:14:41 AM »
OK, I have two things I want to try:

1. Due to class levels and not things like flaws, Elder Evils and the like, and ignoring what you get for your character level, what's the most number of feats you can get in 20 levels? It doesn't matter if it's a specific feat or a selection - if it's listed as a free bonus feat, it counts. Thus far what I have is this:

Lawful Half-Elf
Half-Elf Paragon 1/Fighter 2/Ranger 3/Monk 2/Wizard 1/Feat Rogue (UA, feats instead of SA) 1/UA Expert 2/UA Warrior 2/UA Spellcaster 1/Cleric* 1/Bloodline** 2

* Cleric domains that give free feats, from PHB and SpC (the only books I had handy): Darkness, Domination, Drow, Dwarf, Elf, Metal, Planning, Rune, Time, Undeath, War, Wealth.
** Bloodline, intermediate gives you two feats if your bloodline is from one of the following: Elemental (any), Fey, Genie (djinn or efreeti), Giant (cloud, fire, frost, stone, or storm only), Slaad, Titan, Troll, Vampire, Yuan-Ti.

Looks like I only need two more levels for feats.

2. I'm designing a group of EL10 characters that are all "play against type", giving an odd creature type to each base class in the PHB. Everyone sees, say, an Orc and thinks Barbarian, maybe Fighter, or something like that. For the sake of this particular group of characters, I'm making it a Cloistered Cleric of Ehlonna. All of them only have a single class, no PrC'ing or multiclassing. Most of these characters I can figure out how to build them except this:

The Monk is a Pixie, no Otto's Irresistable Dance.
I am to use Flyby Attack on this character. (Don't ask.)

The major issue I'm having is resolving it conceptually in my mind. If I can get that down, I'm good to go. Any suggestions there would be appreciated.

TIA

Use Cloistered Cleric and then swap all 3 domains for Devotion feats.

Or, y'know... take levels in FEATER!!!

Warforged Wizard
Aasimar Hexblade
Tiefling Paladin
Axani Barbarian
Chaond Monk
Ghost Fighter

As far as understanding the monk-pixie, it kind of reminds me of builds that emulate Tinkerbell's ability to throw people around with no problem. Monks get the grappling abilities automatically.

1. For the feat build I literally only have two levels left to plug in. It doesn't matter if it's a fixed feat or from a selection of feats as long as it's listed as a *feat* in the description. Unfortunately, homebrew is not an option because that depends more on DM fiat than pretty much anything else! So, literally, any two class levels (four if I remove the Bloodline) that give bonus feats are fair game - as long as I can do it in Lawful (or find a substitute for Monk2 - which'll give me the ability to take Wu Jen 1).

2. Tiefling Paladin is already planned, and Aasimar is the only one that I'm building "special" - Assassin and/or Blackgruard. Warforged is going to be Druid - I'm planning something like GIR, from Invader Zim. Wizard I believe was something funky like Troglodyte, I'll have to look into it. I'm pretty much sticking to MM1 for races barring the Warforged (because I love that concept so much!).. and IIRC Ghost Fighter is even in the MM.

(The problem with using other books for "play against type" is unless you're intimately familiar with those other books, you won't realize they're PAT characters, whereas pretty much everyone "gets" what's in the MM.)

Cloistered Cleric was instead of normal Cleric.  You just get an extra domain (Knowledge), which you can trade for Knowledge Devotion.

EDIT: Also, can you use Dragon Mag?

Add Barbarian levels and use the UA variant that trades rage for more favored enemy and archery as ranger.  Since becoming lawful only prevents rage use and rage is no longer on that character it shouldn't be a problem.  Also use the UA Bear Totem variant to get Toughness 1st level and Improved Grapple 2nd.  That's 3 feats in 2 levels of Barbarian, and make sure to take the TWF option for the Ranger.

Psychic Warrior 2 also has 2 feats.

Also, include Erudite for 2 bonus feats in 1 level.

True Dilettante = 504 feats
http://community.wizards.com/go/thread/view/75882/19866566/The_True_Dilettante_-_New_Feat_Record_-_504_feats

I think this was done before the DCFS
got fully accepted.  It should be possible
to get a small pile of Martial Weapons
to turn into one feat slot, one at a time.
Say like Bard.

Making 2 custom bloodlines and having
all the specials be feats, would swap 6 levels
for 20 feats.  Maybe 1 bloodline is worth it.
Maybe 2 is not.  Bloodline feats aren't flexible.

But yeah , a real build could be done.  Getting some
legit casting going on, would also be a challenge.

PsyRef can be handy (as usual) after all those
slots are opened.  Ardent 2 with psiotheurgist(s)
and enough CLs being donated could definitely
get to 9s.  So that opens all 8s on down.  Just
how long you have to wait.

UA/SRD generic classes aren't "supposed"
to be mixed with non-generic base classes.
On that side ... you could go :
Warrior 2 / Expert 2 / Arcane 1 / Divine 1 / PrCs , mix
in a custom Bloodline with all the special generic feats.

Psychic Warrior 2, 2 Fighter/Psionic bonus feats.
