Bonus to an ability check?

Short of gaining a higher wisdom score, what methods are available in E6 to improve a wisdom check? I have shapesand, and my 10 wisdom is not making this easy.

EDIT: I'm a level 2 artificer. The DM has said that a custom item of "control shapesand" would be acceptable if we could find a price for it. The best I can find right now is a continual item of "control sand" (Level 3), but that's a little pricier than I'd like.

Illumian race can get a +2 on wisdom checks (or any other ability check if you wanted instead).
