What is the earliest/rarest D&D product you personally own?  Mine is a SIGNED (Gary Gygax and Zeb Cook) AD&D 2nd ed.  1st printing set of core books, and an original box set of Netheril, Dark Suns, Al-Qadim, and Hollow World.  Trying to replace my Menzobarrazan, but having no luck.  My faves are the 'mini' reprints of the 2nd ed. books (21st Century Games, for 25th TSR/D&D Anniversary), as have 8 books of the set, the Race books (2nd. ed. Humanoids, Elves, Dwarves, and Gnomes & Halflings), Encyclopaedia Magica (all 4 volumes). and The Armory 30-sided Dice Tables and Character Creator.  After 31 years, you tend to collect quite a libram...

Sadly, now, just a copy of the 2E Combat & Tactics. I've kept it just to have a book to keep in front of the backpack to take the abuse and for a writing surface if gaming on the floor.


I used to have quite a few 2E books (when I started playing) and acquired all of the core 1E books. I had over a dozen 1E adventures, as well. About five years ago, my wife talked me into getting rid of all of them. Sometimes, I still wish I hadn't listened...

Hmm.  Earliest?  My OD&D booklets, but they're not in particularly great shape.

Rarest?  Probably the silver edition boxed set.

Most prized?  Believe it or not, a character sheet.  My first character sheet, in fact, for my first character--who is now 30 years old.  The character sheet grew into a book in time, with illustrations, genealogies, and even a few photographs (I used to work at a Renfaire, so it wasn't too hard to get in-costume shots of various "characters".) 

Over time, it also became my de facto autograph album, so I've got signatures ranging from Gary Gygax, Dave Arneson, and Tim Kask up to more recent additions like Jolly Blackburn.

Coolest page in there, though, is the blank page where Larry Elmore did an original sketch for me.

So: not really an official "product," but still the one thing in my collection I'd be sorriest to lose.

I had an extended campaign on Archeron.
Rogue Modrons , marked Nupperibo's upgraded ,
nycaloth pup-fight losers saved , refugees of war.
Big shot was a Bone Devil with no tail, that could
pump out any 5th level spell.  Co-regent was the
only Tertian that wasn't corrupted by the Orcus
thing.  Became rogue as a modron "fundamentalist"
believing only the modrons untouched by Orcus
were legitimately modron(-ic).  Separating the
untouched from The Source made them go rogue.
Etc ... lots of blood and guts justifiable by archeron.

Early printings of Deities and Demigods break down into a few categories:

The first printing has Cthulhu and Melnibone--which TSR didn't have the rights to print.  ("Squids, no thanks.")
The second printing (well, really, printing 1.5--they stopped in the middle to make changes) still has Cthulhu and Melnibone, but also has a thank you to  Chaosium (who had the rights to the properties.)  ("Squids with thanks.")
The third printing removed Cthulhu and Melnibone, but they forgot to take out the thank-you to Chaosium.  ("No squids, thanks.")
The fourth printing removed the thank-you.  ("No squids, no thanks.")


I have two copies: one first printing that sits on a shelf with my other first printings, and one fourth printing that I actually use.

Aha!  Then I have a 1st printing.  But I trashed
it out, during my misspent well-spent youth.

I'm not totally sure, but I could swear my 7th grade
English teacher was a cultist of Shub-Niggurath.
