[Pure Pathfinder] Effective Healing
« on: April 15, 2012, 12:12:58 AM »
Is there any way to have effective cheap healing in a pure pathfinder game without having a pure dedicated healer?

Channel Energy is pretty damned efficient, if not necessarily in combat. It heals relatively low amounts to any one target, but since its area effect you can quite rapidly get the party back on form without significant further investments.

Wands of cure light wounds still exist in PF, and UMD is more easily accessed.

Note that PF changed nothing about in-combat healing, so favor efficiency over throughput.

Did they plug that Echoing Spell/Spell Perfection combo? If not, you can get infinite healing spells that way.

You can get infinite out of combat healing with the Glorious Heat feat and the Spark orison.  My character uses that w/ a candle all the time.  Each candle has like an hour of juice, spend each round igniting and blowing it out, that's a lot of hp healed per copper piece. :)

In combat healing is pretty bleh.  Basically Heal or go home.  Paladin can heal himself decently w/ a swift, so as long as he can draw aggro he can do a decently effective job of in-combat healing.

Qualifier, if you can get at least three PCs in a Channel Energy area, it can be worth the action. Its more and opportunistic thing though.

The Vitalist class from that 3rd party psionics book is supposedly an effective in-combat healer, though I haven't seen one in play.

As far as cheap out-of-combat healing goes, a wand of infernal healing will heal 10hp (fast healing 1 for 1 minute), which is better out of combat than a wand of cure light wounds, and is a cleric, sorc/wiz spell. UMD to get lesser restoration from the paladin spell list on a 1st level wand is another easy trick.

Glorious Heat has been unofficially corrected. The reason as I understand it that it has been unofficially corrected and not officially errataed is that Paizo only publishes errata when reprinting a book and  the feat is in a soft cover book that is unlikly to get reprinted anytime soon if at all.

I can see nothing on the srd that suggestes they have fixed the Echoing Spell/Spell Perfection combo

Remember if you are using channel energy to heal in combat that it affects all affects all creatures of one type (either undead or living) in a 30-foot radius centered on the cleric. So if your enemies are within 30ft of the cleric then they will be healed as well unless they are undead.

So pick Variant Channeling so that humanoids heal more and non-humanoids heal less. :smirk

The answer seems to be "nothing awesome that isn't at least a little cheesy".  I can accept that.

Is there any way to regularly maximize Channel Energy or Lay on Hands?
