Tome Dragon
« on: November 16, 2011, 05:13:14 PM »
Alright, here's my attempt at a Tome Dragon, with some new abilities and WAY fewer SLA's. I'm not sure about balance right now, and there are a few dead levels I want to fill in with something. Please speak up if you have any idea.

Oh, and I don't have a picture just yet. I'll have to learn (or remember) how to post one here.

Wee finally got some free time to comment on classes!

-Table mentions Frail Body and magic of Foresight, but then it never shows up again.
-I'm not very sure where's the tome dragon from, but long range burst breath is considerably better than most other breath weapons out there.
-Why good maneuverability? Also dragon wings are suposed to only add half str to damage (they already have plenty of nat attacks).
-Put a link to the Hindsight spell.
-Actually, why does the tome dragon needs SLAs at all? It has wizard casting. It can just learn the spells it needs.
-Free metamagic... It's very powerful. Specially when you can reduce costs to 0. How about at least a clause that you can't put more free metamagic in a spell if the normal modified spell level would end being higher than the highest spell level you can cast+1?
-Cunning combatant and Talent for Sight look pretty nice!
-Very powerful capstone, but well, you've sacrificed 5 levels by then, so kinda fair.

So well, it's an improvement on the last one that's for sure, you've added a nice mix of original abilities (learning pretty much every language out there is fluffy even if obsolete with magic) but this new version puts lots of focus on learning new spells and some SLAs, when that's redudant for a wizard. For sorceror-dragons extra spells known are worth their weight in gold. On the other hand, wizard casting doesn't need that much love, so it's probably a wise decision on your part.

And speaking of Wis, why Wisdom bonus? I don't really see it doing much there. I would swap it for some random minor Str and Cha boosts.

As for dead levels, I would sugest spreading out the abilities more. Levels that increase wizard casting can also get away with less abilities than those who don't.

Will see if I can think of some more cool abilities, nothing come to my head now.

More stuff coming soon, once I've applied for summer internships. Sorry for the huge delay - finals always eats my lunch, and this year was truly horrendous. I wish people would actually help you when you ask for help, especially if they've already promised to do so. . . *shakes fist*

Okay. Back to work. I promise to be talkative soonish.

This guy dead? I'd hate to see it languish so close to completion.

Hmm, it does indeed seems pretty close to completion. Very well I'll see if I can get some time to finish it up this weekend.
