I'm banging my head against this problem...
« on: May 08, 2012, 05:12:12 PM »
Namely, I'm trying to exploit the (apparently) awesome synergy of a Swordsage/Soulbow; if you pick the right Discipline for Insightful Strikes, you get to add your Wisdom to damage whenever you use a Strike from that discipline. Now, I seem to remember that there was at least one official, non-homebrew Discipline where there was a STRIKE or two that worked with bows.

Any help would be appreciated.

Any maneuver without an attack will work with a ranged attacking character, but almost all maneuvers that involve attacking do not work with ranged attacks.

I know there are a few, but it will be tough.

I'd suggest not combining soulbow and any official martial adept. Martial adepts just are not ranged characters.

Time Stands Still (strike), Raging/Dancing Mongoose (boost), and I think a couple other combat boosters work with ranged attacks. There aren't many. I think there's about 5 in total.

Not a strike, so it doesn't benefit from the WIS to damage, but I have grown fond of the Setting Sun stance Giant Killing Style.  It gives +2 to attack and +4 to damage for all attacks against a foe that is larger than you.  Not just melee attacks (as the fluff might suggest).  Since most ranged characters are typically small or tiny, not a bad investment for the cost of a level or 2 in Swordsage.

Desert Wind has Fan the Flames.
Shadow Hand has Shadow Garotte.

They aren't usable with bows, but they are ranged touch attacks.

Have you considered Shiba Protector? That's Wisdom to Attack & Damage, no clause on melee only or ranged. A dip into Monk can give Combat Expertise and Wisdom to AC too, so you could net better with a faster rate of gain over Swordsage 4's Damage only with Strikes only.

Thing is, my plan is to pick up Shiba Protector at a later point for Wis*3 to my attacks.

Ah well, a dip in Swordsage to slap Intuitive Strike for Diamond Mind and an item of Time Stands Still leads to epicness 1/encounter; if I can manage a +10 modifier to my Wisdom, that's firing ~20 attacks as a full round action, each getting a +20 to hit from my Wisdom (Zen Archery), and a +30 to damage.

I just think that would be nifty, that's all.

Druid 15 / Shiba Protector 1 that cryo-wild shapes into a 12 headed hydra and casts Owl's Insight (preferably with a boosted CL).  Now that would be awesome.  :cool

Even better with Intuitive Attack obviously.
