City based campaign tank.
« on: May 17, 2012, 02:13:09 AM »
Hey everyone, I've been lurking around and reading the various threads and I've picked up some ideas for my next character concept. Looking for some additional ideas, suggestions, or pros and cons to help further lock-in my selections and probably some fine tuning eventually.
First off I'm playing in a city based campaign, we do once in a while leave it but majority of our encounters happens on the streets or indoors. And we're all roughly level 10.
As for party makeup, we got a Cloistered Cleric of Saint Cuthbert. He doesn't do any direct damage, low init, low str. He tends to heal, buff and summon monsters. With only one attempt in 10 levels at physical damage.
A bard thats aiming for Seeker of the Song. She does okay damage between using a really expensive whip for range and a really expensive rapier. She tends to get buffs/debuffs going and summons monsters herself before wading into melee.
We also have 2 other players are a big unknown. One mentioned something about a rogue and the other is undecided. Majority of the group isn't really optimized well but i think the rogue will probably be.

And as for me, I'm thinking of going for the tank though with the summon monsters I'm just having a hard time picking.  :banghead
Current Ideas: Human or dwarf as race. Sub-races are allowed. Trying to stay away from Lvl adj, no level buy off. Flaws are still under debate with the DM.(Hopefully i get that done this weekend) so I'm planning for either. Aiming for Level 10 build to start with room to grow.

Straight Crusader Lock-down (Probably polearm/spikes type over spiked chain but still open on that )And I have gotten permission to use the Ancestral Relic feat to apply to both the armor and armor spikes separately with one feat cost due to having hard time customizing equipment while ingame. Also if no flaws Feats will be gained in order of appearance
2 flaws Murky eyed and Shaky: Stone Power and Extra Granted Maneuver
If 3rd flaw haven't figured that out: Ancestral Relic
Feats by rate of acquirement: 1st: Combat Reflexes, 3rd: Stand Still, 6th: Combat Expertise, 9th: Improved Trip, 12th: Defensive Sweep,  15th: Robilar's Gambit, ; 18th Overwhelming Assault

Crusader Deepstone Sentinel. (this one is hard on finding builds, plenty of mentions but nothing broken down)Crusader 10/Deepstone Sentinel?
Probably same feat section as the straight Crusader lockdown part.

Crusader/Warblade: Swappings levels back and forth. I need to sit down and figure out manuvers for this one still to figure out the breakdown. Similiar Feat selection just swapping Combat Expertise and improved trip for Ironheart Aura and Stormguard warrior

Probably not so tanky route this one just say screw it to party make up and go have fun.
Cleric 2/ Crusader 3/Prestige Paladin 1/Vindicator 7/?
Feats: Suggestions? I know Able Learner?, Battle Blessing at 6th, and probably extra turning, Extra Granted Maneuver but I'm hitting a blank here.

One last thing I know most of my builds i can throw feat grabbing a little faster if i end up with human though what extra feats would be suggested?

Wait, indoors?

Dwarven Defender is designed for this kinda thing, you know.
"There is happiness for those who accept their fate, there is glory for those that defy it."

"Now that everyone's so happy, this is probably a good time to tell you I ate your parents."

No thanks on the dwarven defender. Bunch of worthless feats as requirements.

Though now that I managed to get my books back from the dm now i can actually put some work up.

Dodge and Endurance can actually be quite useful assuming you continue along with other feats.  Dodge leads into Elusive target which will negate Power Attack and offer some other benefits.  Endurance is a prereq for Steadfast Determination which is quite nice for preventing automatic Fort failures on a 1.  Toughness does suck though, no question.

If the character is blocking a choke point then DD might be worthwhile for two or three levels, and in a city there can be plenty of choke points thanks to buildings.

The builds you've already provided would be pretty solid though.  If you have room to spare for EWP, the kusari-gama is very much worthwhile.

This old build might interest you (The Dwarven Answerer).
