So I figured I would actually join it, considering how much time I spend reading it. Am I supposed to introduce myself as a person? My name's Dashiell, I'm 34 and male. I've been gaming on and off again for around 15 years. I like math, booze, telling stories and jokes . . . so roleplaying has always been a fun thing for me.

Hey, anyone remember/still play Gemstone? Just throwing that out there.

edit

Ok, there's so many damn things you should read that I missed the top one in this forum....and I'm drunk.

-Your favorite games - I like the convenience of D&D. Most of our games are casual with a small bit of power/exploit. I've played 2, 3 and 4 and like 3 and 4 quite a bit (comparatively, I like AD&D a lot less)
-Your non gaming hobbies - Writing/recording music . . . getting drunk
-Where you live - San Diego, California
-What other communities you belong to meetups, message boards etc - Giants In the Playground (giantitp.com)

Hey, cool! I live in San Diego, too! Another southern brother!

I've never heard of Gemstone...

Drunkenness is always exciting. Have you ever played any other RPGs? Seems like you have quite a breadth of experience. What sort of music do you write? What instruments do you play? What is your occupation? What is your favorite type and brand of booze (a list will do if the choice is too difficult  ;) )

We should meet up and game sometime! I go to SDSU in August, so... there you go.
A smile from ear to ear
3.5 is disappointingly flawed.

Gemstone was pretty much one of the original MMPORG's and totally text based. While their were plenty of MUD's (multi-user dungeons) Gemstone was one of the first online RPG that reached large (at the time) numbers. This was in the mid-90's, though, so "large" then would be laughable now. It still exists, actually, but I just don't have time for MMO's.

I haven't really tinkered around with two many other pen and paper RPG's. We played one that my friend made that was quite fun but keeping the group together was hard. I guess I'm mainly stuck with D&D because it's convenient. Not many of my friends game but those that do almost all have some D&D experience. Video games I've played a ton of RPG's and have been a fan since I was little kid.

The music that I'm working on now is sort of . . . a kind of noisy dark-wave and no-wave type thing. It's hard to explain because it really is a hodge-podge of a few different styles that I'm trying to find a synergy with. I play bass mostly, and sing . . . though I can work my way around a drum set well enough to get by for simple stuff.

As far as booze goes, that's rough. I work for two of the finer beer and alcohol bars in San Diego so I'm trying amazing stuff all the time . . . but my favorite *reasonable* whiskey is Michael Collins, my favorite more find-able beer is Delerium Tremens . . . wine, eh, perhaps I'm not sophisticated enough to be able to really discern good wines from bad wines, so I'll just drink whatever's not to expensive and doesn't look like total swill.

I could very well be down to game some time. I work an odd schedule that doesn't lend itself well to getting groups together and the days I can game I have a group that we try and get a game in with . . . but that doesn't mean I'm opposed, it's just sort of a pain in the ass to find time because I'm a late nighter compared to most people.

Anyhow, pleasure to meet you!
