Reach out and touch someone (PrC)
« on: July 10, 2012, 07:28:49 PM »
Wanted to make a PrC centred around spectral hand, so here it is. Some of the abilities might be a bit on the strong side, but the lost caster level should balance things out a bit. :-\

Weapon and Armor Proficiency: Disciples of Bigby gain no proficiency with any weapon or armor.

Spells per Day: From 2nd level on, when a new Disciple of Bigby level is gained, the character gains new spells per day as if he had also gained a level in a spellcasting class he belonged to before adding the prestige class. He does not, however, gain any other benefit a character of that class would have gained, except for an increased effective level of spellcasting. If a character had more than one spellcasting class before becoming a Disciple of Bigby, he must decide to which class he adds the new level for purposes of determining spells per day.

Detonate Hand (Su): Instead of using a spectral hand effect to deliver a touch spell as normal, you may release it as a 10ft burst centred on the hand's position (Reflex half, DC = normal DC for a spell of that level or the spectral hand's level, whichever is greater). This destroys the spectral hand.

Enduring Hand (Su): The caster level of your Bigby's helpful hand and spectral hand spells is increased by 3, to a maximum of 2 + your character level.

Improved Spectral Hand (Su): You have developed greater mastery of the spectral hand spell. Casting the spell does not cause you to lose hit points; instead it has hit points equal to your caster level (unless it would somehow have more). In addition, the hand does not need to attack from your direction. Finally, add your class level to the highest level of touch spells which can be channeled by the hand.

Warding Hands (Su): For every one of your Bigby's helpful hand or spectral hand spells within 5ft of you, you gain a cumulative +2 shield bonus to AC (to a maximum of double your class level), which applies even against incorporeal touch attacks.

Force Palm (Su): At 2nd level you gain a melee touch attack usable at will, dealing 1d6 points of force damage. If your BAB is high enough to allow multiple attacks, then you may attack with multiple force palms per turn. This attack may be channeled by a spectral hand effect as if it were a spell, in which case it deals 1d6 force damage per level of the spell slot used to cast spectral hand.

Versatile Hand (Su): At 2nd level, whenever you cast Bigby's helpful hand it has an effective Strength score equal to double the level of the spell slot used to cast it (or its normal Strength score, whichever is higher), increasing its carrying capacity accordingly. As a standard action you may order the hand to move to any position within Medium range (100ft +10ft/level) and either remain there or follow you at a fixed distance; if the hand goes out of range then the spell ends.

Hand Magus (Su): At 3rd level, whenever you cast a Bigby's hand spell (including Bigby's clenched fist) you can also channel spells through it as if it were a spectral hand (but only against the current target of the Bigby's hand spell), or have it carry items as a Bigby's helpful hand spell.
You may treat Bigby's hand spells as both Bigby's helpful hand and spectral hand for the purposes of this class's abilities.

Two Hands Clapping (Su): At 3rd level, whenever a creature is struck in melee by one of your spectral hand spells, your other spectral hand spells treat it as flanked for the rest of the round.

Hand Opportunist (Su): At 4th level, as long as you share your space with a spectral hand your reach is increased by +5ft. You may use spectral hands to make attacks of opportunity.

Skillful Hand (Su): At 4th level you may command a Bigby's helpful hand to perform Strength checks, using the same action it would take for you to perform the check normally. Alternatively you may have the hand perform a Dexterity check, Dex-based skill check or Disable Device check using your modifiers, but performing a check in this manner takes twice as long as normal, to a minimum of 1 round.

Extended Hand (Su): At 5th level the range of your spectral hand spells increases by one step (Close->Medium->Long).

Omnihand (Su): At 5th level, whenever you cast a spell you may choose to have it originate from a spectral hand you control, even if it is not a touch spell.

I love this class. The flavor just made me laugh for a good 5 minutes.

I will say that the lost caster level isn't that big of a deal. You effectively lose 1 caster level to have every hand spell possible be your CL +2 and be able to flank, take AoO, and detonate, etc.  I'd at the very least want to see the class be a little harder to take...

We need a Bigby's Offensive Gesture spell or something.  Have the target make a will save or else be cowed into attacking the hand.
