A man-sized humanoid construct of wood, stone, and metal, obviously designed for the rigors of battle, stands before you. It holds a polearm of some strange construction in its hand, and overlapping armored plates are attached over its torso and forearms. A string of letters and numbers is emblazoned in bright red letters on its chest: AICU812.

In their quest to create ever more effective automatons that could independently assess and respond to fluid combat situations, members of the Dreaming Apothecary had a startling breakthrough: they were able to engender full sentience into their combat constructs, allowing them to adapt and respond to rapidly changing environments as well as a human, while still maintaining the resiliency and tirelessness of a construct. Unfortunately such sentience comes with a pretty big drawback: sometimes these constructs just flatly refuse to obey commands. However, this has not stopped their masters from selling them, despite their flaws. If word ever gets out of one of these constructs turning on and destroying its master, there will no doubt be hell to pay, though...
It is also rumored that the Dreaming Apothecary keeps secret override codes, which allow them to reclaim control over these constructs remotely (via their dreams), and use them to spy on (and perhaps even assassinate) their purchasers, but that is likely just hearsay. After all, such treachery wouldn't be good for business, right? And who ever heard of an automaton that can dream?
