Are pushups harder for dwarves?
« on: July 22, 2012, 03:59:15 PM »
There's a good chance my guys may find themselves being trained by someone who considers himself a drill sargeant.  One of the NPCs will be a dwarf who doesn't know when to shut up.  At some point, he'll be told to "drop, and give me 20!".  While the PCs are training, they'll hear the dwarf complain "This is so unfair.  Pushups are harder for dwarves"

It doesn't matter if it's true or not, he's going to complain.  But I'm wondering if it is true?  Dwarves have the same weight as humans, but in a shorter frame.  So their center of gravity is closer to their toes, which makes pushups easier, but the center of gravity is also closer to their arms, which makes pushups harder.  I don't know which one wins out????

There are no rules for this, so it is entirely up to you.  And honestly, trying to apply real physics to this will just give you headaches.  At best I'd say base it on his strength score and how much he can lift versus his actual weight to determine if it's "easy" or not.

They'd also have higher muscle density, so there's that. Honestly, it's up to you. I'd just have the drill sergeant tell him to shut up because he's closer than the ground.

It'd get their beard dirty and annoy them mostly, with their muscle density it'd probably be easier even.

True, but dwarves don't have short arms.  In fact, their fingers reach past their knees.

in that case the dwarf is screwed,

Drill: "You dwarves and your disgusting freaking beards, are you even a male or a female?"

Have the recruits line up against the wall, so that they each are looking into a mirror.  They must chant "I'm not crazy(points to self), you're crazy(points at mirror)" for hours.
Also the mirrors are Mirrors of Opposition with the command word set to "crazy"

If they do what they are told, the opposition appears and disappears quickly, if they freak out, they all fight themselves.   :evillaugh

Everything is easier for a dwarf.

Especially women.
“Hast thou not felt in forest gloom, as gloaming falls on dark-some dells, when comes a whisper, hum and hiss; savage growling sounds a-near, dazzling flashes around thee flicker, whirring waxes and fills thine ears: has thou not felt then grisly horrors that grip thee and hold thee?”

They would have to be much easier with those short legs. Try some on your knees.
