yaasq (yet another Alter Self question)
« on: April 14, 2014, 01:02:48 PM »
if your already Monstrous Humanoid and cast Alter Self.

turning your self into an Unbodied, what do you gain from them?

Quote
Size/Type:   Medium Monstrous Humanoid (Incorporeal, Psionic)
Hit Dice:   4d8+4 (22 hp)
Initiative:   +1
Speed:   Fly 30 ft. (good) (6 squares)
Armor Class:   13 (+1 Dex, +2 deflection), touch 13, flat-footed 12
Base Attack/Grapple:   +4/—
Attack:   Incorporeal touch +5 melee (1d6)
Full Attack:   Incorporeal touch +5 melee (1d6)
Space/Reach:   5 ft./5 ft.
Special Attacks:   Psionic powers, telekinetic force
Special Qualities:   Assume likeness, incorporeal traits, telepathy 100 ft.
Saves:   Fort +2, Ref +5, Will +6
Abilities:   Str Ø, Dex 13, Con 12, Int 15, Wis 14, Cha 15
Skills:   Bluff +10*, Diplomacy +6, Disguise +10*, Intimidate +6, Listen +6, Sense Motive +6, Spot +6
Feats:   Overchannel, Wild Talent

i struck out anything i know you dont get.

i italicized stuff im not sure about, basically anything not struck out.

im really not sure about the deflection bonus, i dont see its source.

i also dont see the specific source of the telepathy. i dont really expect this is something AS will give you..

i have a hard time figuring the Incorporeal traits as anything but physical qualities. thats sorta backwards, they are unphysical qualities?

i dont think you get the feats, they are HD feats not exactly bonus?

i also didnt do the math to see if the skills have bonuses.

Deflection is Cha to Deflection (it's in the bit about Unbodied as characters) as a racial trait, so I'd say yes.

Incorporeal and Telepathy look like a no to me, based on Alter Self. Without telepathy, it loses the +4 to Bluff/Disguise.

And you only get racial bonus feats, which those two aren't. They're just from normal racial hit dice.

On the whole, not as impressive as hoped :/

its Incorporeal traits dont have an Ex, Su or Sa tag on em. which, for me, leaves them in limbo.

without Incor i dont think you get the fly speed or the deflection bonus.

and i still cant locate a source for the telepathy.

Quote from: Alter Self
Your creature type and subtype (if any) remain the same regardless of your new form.

Incorporeal is a subtype, and you only have the incorporeal traits if you have the subtype. Since alter self doesn't change your subtype(s), you don't get the incorporeal traits. Alter self would turn you into a corporeal unbodied, also known as a "bodied".

is it that you have to have the sub type to have the traits or does having the traits mean you may also have the sub type.

The subtype is the source of the traits, if you lose the subtype you lose the traits.
