3.5/Pathfinder: Finishing up a Barbarian Build (Info inside)
« on: August 25, 2012, 06:39:28 PM »
Well, I've been thinking about how to finish a build. For reference, we have a couple of quick houserules: CMD = 15 plus regular bonuses, 1 feat every level, for HP roll twice, take better. My character is also a Goliath, with modified stats to make it identical to PF Half-Giant except other racial traits (Monstrous Humanoid, PB, altitude acclimation, etc.).
(click to show/hide)

With that massive stat block out of the way, what I usually do in combat is squish any nearby monsters. Anything that I can't directly kill (things with Regeneration, DR that I can't pierce, etc.), I grapple-pin them in 1 round (Greater grapple lets you maintain a grapple check with a move action, by RAW if you start adjacent next to an enemy, you can grapple with a standard action and use your move action to pin them). If it's a viable option (vs spellcasters), Body Bludgeon at other mooks. If grappling is impossible, throw as much damage as possible at it until it dies.

I've been thinking about PRCing into Warhulk by taking Cleave at level 11 for level 12 qualification for 4 levels for the Massive Swing ability. On the other hand, our blaster tends to use ice spells, and if my character loses his weapon, he can't do jack squat. For that, I've been thinking of taking Superior Unarmed Strike and dipping into Frostrager for 3 levels. One last thing I was thinking about was taking a level of Bear Warrior to qualify for Warshaper, but my current Rage has better ability modifiers...

Thoughts?

Instead of Body Bludgeon and the two increased DR powers, consider the beast totem line for pounce (and some natural armor, but that doesn't do much at this level).

I already have Pounce by virtue of Lion Totem (We use both 3.5 and PF sourcebooks, mostly Pathfinder rules).

You can always go the unarmed barbarian way and then focus on Bear warrior to have a berserker kung fu bear. Oh, and you always take at least 5 levels of bear warrior. +16 STR is great.

Or War Hulk. It ain't that hard to keep your weapon (get one of those crystal from Magic Item Compendium, tie it to your wrist, make it returning or something like that).

If you think about going War Hulk, the Skillful weapon enhancement (Complete Arcane) might be necessary if your BAB dips much below 15 by the end.  It grants BAB with the weapon as a cleric of your level, so at 20 it'll get you 15 BAB.
