I need a little help
« on: September 08, 2012, 01:58:53 PM »
For the last few weeks I've been playing in an online 3.5e Game set as a drow-centric game (set in the city detailed in the DotU sourcebook)

and I found the Quintessential Ninja handbook here and wanted to use the Rokugan Ninja but with only a total of 15 levels to play with (or 13 with teh Drow LA+2 no buyoff type game).

Drow, Lesser Drow, Half-breeds and humans are allowed but that's about it.

Can someone help me optimize a build for a 32 point buy game with these conditions? All Books allowed save MoI (the DM doesn't understand how that works or doesn't have that book) and frowns on ToB use (He won't ban it but he doesn't like the way things work in it though he'll let somethings slide with proper justification (like it fits your build or whatever)

Did I put this in the wrong board or something?

A possible reason you haven't gotten much help is you weren't specific enough with your request.  What do you want to accomplish with the ninja build besides the general ninja stuff?

I know you said the DM doesn't like ToB, but see if he'll let you go Swordsage -> Shadow Sun Ninja.  A few (no more than 3) levels of Rokugan Ninja could be useful (full BAB, sneak attack, high Will saves), and maybe a single level of CAdv Ninja, but only if your DM allows Sudden Strike to stack with Sneak Attack and lets you apply Wis to AC twice (once from Swordsage, once from Ninja).

Something like Unarmed Swordsage 1/Rokugan Ninja 2/Swordsage +2/Shadow Sun Ninja 10.
I'm not arguing, I'm explaining why I'm right.

If you go heavy on Rokugan ninja, the ability to use the dodge feat against multiple enemies can be exploited.  The elusive target feat (Complete Warrior) negates bonus damage from power attack dealt by your dodge target.

A ring of the darkhidden (Magic Item Compendium) makes you invisible to darkvision for 2,000 gp.  If you're mostly going to be hanging around the underdark, that's almost as good as normal invisibility.  Remember that you can't target spells against something unless you can see or touch it.  A proper spellcaster will have a way to see invisible creatures, but creatures with spell-like abilities might not.

If you're going to attract your DM's attention to that item, you'll probably want a way to overcome it yourself.  A hathran mask of true seeing (Unapproachable East) gives you continuous true seeing for 75,000 gp.  That also happens to deal with most forms of concealment, which would otherwise prevent you from using sneak attack.

Some other items to look at are gloves of the balanced hand (Magic Item Compendium) and a gemstone of fortification (Draconomicon, p83).

A character that keeps with the flavor of a ninja but isn't a push over. And SSN requires you to be "good" and being good in this game = getting dead...quickly.

Well Swordsage might fit the "elf/drow" theme though. so he migh tlet it fly I'd have to ask.

And I do like the Rokugan ninja over the CA version. It feels..more realistic to me. And the MiC is allowd so the ring of darkhidden is allowed. And there's plenty of ways to get past it, there's a few mages able to use scrolls of it, etc.

I managed to make one

Rokugan Ninja 5/Martial Domain Wizard 1 (Illusion)/ Abjurant Champion 5/ Swiftblade 4

how's that work with equips to bump the SA factor and such?
