HD:d12Level | Bab | Fort | Ref | Will | Feature |
1 | + 0 | +0 | +0 | + 2 | Skeleton body, Cold as death, The Skeleton Dance, +2 Dex |
Skills:2+int modifier per level, no class skills
Proficiencies:The Skeleton doesn't gain any new proficiencies besides its new natural weapons.
Features:Skeleton body: Unlike other monster classes, the Awakened Skeleton doesn't lose its racial ability modifiers, but it does gain undead traits
* No Constitution score.
* Darkvision out to 60 feet.
* Immunity to all mind-affecting effects (charms, compulsions, phantasms, patterns, and morale effects).
* Immunity to poison, sleep effects, paralysis, stunning, disease, and death effects.
* Not subject to critical hits, nonlethal damage, ability drain, or energy drain. Immune to damage to its physical ability scores (Strength, Dexterity, and Constitution), as well as to fatigue and exhaustion effects.
* Heals naturaly.
* Immunity to any effect that requires a Fortitude save (unless the effect also works on objects or is harmless).
* Uses its Charisma modifier for Concentration checks.
* Not at risk of death from massive damage, but when reduced to 0 hit points or less, it is immediately destroyed.
* Not affected by raise dead and reincarnate spells or abilities. Resurrection and true resurrection can affect undead creatures. These spells turn undead creatures back into the living creatures they were before becoming undead.
* Undead do not breathe, eat, or sleep.
The Awakened Skeleton gains two claw attacks each dealing 1d4 (if medium sized) plus its Strength bonus. If the base creature already had Claw attacks that dealt as much or better damage, instead increase their die size by one step. Winged Awakened Skeletons can’t use their wings to fly. If the base creature flew magically, so can the Awakened Skeleton.
It is an undead creature and its size is unchanged. Do not recalculate saves and skill points. In addition, an Awakened Skeleton’s current and future hit dice become d12s and it gains a Nat armor bonus equal to its Strength stat mod, overwriting any previous natural armor. If the Awakened Skeleton already had a bigger Natural armor bonus, it instead increases by 1.
Cold as Death:The skeleton gains resistance to cold equal to its HD and DR/bludgeoding equal to half its HD.
The Skeleton Dance: Skeletons have been animated ever since vertebrated creatures realized what was inside them. Pick one of the following
Elemental Skeleton-Your body is constantly wreathed with unquenchable energy, that extends to any weapon you wield. Pick fire, cold, electricity or acid. As a swift action for 1 round your physical attacks deal an extra 1d4 of that kind damage. For every 4 HD you have increase this amount of extra damage by one die step (1d4-1d6-1d8-2d6, etc). Your cold resistance also changes to the new element.
Nimble Skeleton-With no flesh weighting you anymore, you can move at impressive speeds and even over walls! As a swift action, for 1 round you gain a climb speed equal to your base speed and a bonus to Dexterity equal to 2+1/4 HD.
Soldier Skeleton-Among the undead, no army can match the efficient discipline of bone regiments. The Skeleton gains proficiency on the next tier of armors (none->light->medium->heavy). If it already had proficiency with heavy armor, now it fits like a second new skin, and the skeleton moves at full speed in any kind of armor and ignores its Max Dex limit. As a swift action, for 1 round the skeleton gains a +1 circumstance bonus to its attack rolls and Armor class for each adjacent ally to it of same size or bigger.
Ability increase:The awakened skeleton gains +2 Dex.
Comments: Well yeah, the skeleton is a template and not a race on itself, but since it was requested I did my best here.
Basicaly, 1 level gets the amazing undead traits. As the skeleton grows its DR and cold resistance do as well. In return crappy skills, BAB and saves. Either you're an evil yourself or get one to patch you up because heal spells will hurt you.
So if you want the basic undead right away, the skeleton's for you!
EDIT: 21/09/2012 updated with custom abilities to make it more interesting.
