Item pricing, again
« on: October 24, 2012, 05:42:14 PM »
I am looking for an estimate value of the following items (full cost, not the half for the purpose of production)

1 a set of clothes for a lycantrope that meld into the hybrid shape instead of tearing and auto-clean blood stains.

2 upgrading an existing hat of disguise to also change voice and smell.

3 can nystul's aura be used in production of an item to make it slip detect magic effects?

if 'magic items resize to fit'

then simply a basic enchantment would keep your lycanthrop clothes intact.

Prestidigitation will clean clothes, so make an at will item (set of clothes? or individual pieces), should handle that.

Doesn't protect from any combat damage that might follow the transformation. - will do for now however.
When I do need the melding version though, how should I make it work?

if your clothing is considered "equipment" then it will auto meld. just get glamoured on your clothes. or the prestidigitation effect will work too. so long as it counts as equipment.

Do you want the hat to stick with just an illusion, or would Alter Self work?  Lycanthropy does not change your type, just adds the shapechanger subtype, so Alter Self should work.  In which case, the hat would cost 6x the amount (lv 2 spell, lv 3 caster vs 1 & 1 for Disguise, same durations on the spells).  Glamered clothing would cover the outfit appearance, as mentioned before, which works well because Alter Self does not affect your gear.

I can't see why it wouldn't work.  Let's see, a continuous effect, level 1 spell, CL 1 required to cast it, duration of 1 day/lv... +1,000gp to the cost of the item.  I would put a limit on what items you could affect with this, so that only items with completely passive effects could be permanently enchanted with it, due to needing to make a will save just to be able to use Identify or the like to figure out how to activate it, which a caster is only allowed to make once, could be problematic.
What do I win?
An awesome-five for mentioning Penny Arcade's On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness.

incorporate a spell or item which blocks scent. or use the higher level illusion spell which allows you to generate scent. that will up the price, though, unless you limit the uses per day or something.

I am not the lycanthrope. I am hiring one. And since my usual intrigues involve several fake personas maintained through illusions, an agent that recognises them all to be the same person might prove inconvenient. So the clothes are for him and the hat upgrade is for me.
Does alter self change the smell?

EDIT: a hat with alter self would be 18000 ? (2 level spell x 3 level caster x 2000 x 1,5 for spell measured in 10 minutes ) ?

good question. and not explicitly answered anywhere i'm aware of. however, if the type and subtype do not change, i imagine that one would still smell like the type and subtype, just like a ranger still gets favored bonus against one. but i'm just going by feel here.
