E6 don't know what to do
« on: December 10, 2012, 06:09:30 PM »
hi everyone
I am currently planning a one shot session this weekend and I want to show my players what you can do with E6.
I will have 5 players.

The 4 others are :
lesser assimar cloisterd cleric1 freedom pal2 fighter 2 crusader 1 with knowledge devotion divine might and 2 handed weapon
dragonborn lesser assimar savage bard with wild cohort and Dragon Fire Inspiration and word of creation
goliath barb1 fighter2 rander2 warbade1 with shock trooper and 2 weapons fighting ( 2 handed was too much )
strongheart halflin rogue2 fighter4 with it and run and crossbow sniper

I don't know what to do for the 5th character, I want him to be at least not useless
I was thinking wizard but at this level I can't find any nice combination
and I would like to avoid greenbound summoning druid

thanks for your advice

Are you creating these characters for your players?

If you are the DM, then we also have the luxury of knowing what that the players-characters will encounter. Telling us the foes can help to see who can help. For example, if--despite the optimization of the characters--your session happened to eschew combat and focus on social interaction/roleplay, a Face would be a good character for the fifth. :D

this will be a combat oriented session with some people to save and a few interaction with NPC

they will go through a dungeon with construct, undead, humanoid, and a dragon as the final boss friend
the boss will be an artificer and a necro, both will be in the same room than the dragon

The team composition is missing an apparent battle-field controller who, to me, means a Wizard. I would think that the crux to building them is their spell selection. Dragonfire Adepts can also do a bit of battlefield control with Entangling Exhalation. They have an invocation that allows them to protect whom that they wish from their own Breath Weapon. Thirdly, they do not have spells per day that have to be managed.

I have already read this nice handbook  :clap
I know the team need it but I am quite bad at building low level wizard  :banghead
I start to build a focus specialist conjuration but I have trouble finding synergy with feats and class feature.
And with 3rd level spell there is no black tentacle or solid fog  :banghead
so spell selection is not an easy task
thanks for your fast reply
edit : i will take a look to the dragonfire adept

Mystic Ranger (Drg#336) + Sword of the Arcane Order feat (CoR) + Magical Training feat (PGtF) +Simple "Wildshape" Variant Ranger (UA) = BAB 6, 6D8 HP, 3rd level Ranger/Wizard Spells (with your own spellbook), and Wildshape

Ghaele (SS) and Trumpet Archon (SS) are kinda nice in E6.

Artificers (ECS) can really be fun in lower level environments.

Beguiler (PHBII) 5/ Mage of the Arcane Order (CA) 1 has more skills and hp than a wizard, decent spell list, and access to any spell you need with spellpool.

If you're still deciding on monsters, try the Dybbuk from Fiendish Codex I

In one of my 1-shot E6 games the party had a hell of a time dealing with it.
