Quaal's Feather Token: Boat - in the middle of combat?

If two foes were standing toe to toe, and one of them wants to get away and block the path of those who want to kill her (so merely withdrawing won't suffice), could she just activate the Quaal's Feather Token (Swan Boat) to block the hallway or path, etc?

To better describe what she's wanting to do, while been threatened, she wants to activate the feather between herself and the foes threatening her (as her standard action), then use her move action to start retreating.

Now, obviously the boat is going to push people aside in both directions as it grows (basically an automatically successful Bull Rush, but no other consequences).

Swan Boat
A token that forms a swanlike boat capable of moving on water at a speed of 60 feet. It can carry eight horses and gear or thirty-two Medium characters or any equivalent combination. The boat lasts for one day.

A reasonable guess puts the boat at approximately 10 feet by 20 feet, or something close to that.

So, would you let it happen that way?
Standard action to activate (no provoking AoO?) -> the growing boat pushes both people back as it grows, then the feather user can still use her move action to start retreating?

That actually might work well.  The owner of the feather in question is a Bheur Hag, who can fly...

and then they have to make a crazy Str check to get it off them, or just hack the crap out of the bottom of it... which means you know exactly where they'll come out from


also i noticed that the fan feather said it couldn't be used on 'land' but you could use it while flying to create some wind

They should at least get a reflex save to avoid it, if you try to open it on them...

you can also flyby bomb people with the feather trees, since at least in the SRD, you don't have to plant it in the ground

The Shax's Haversack handbook on GitP suggests dropping boats and trees as emergency tactics.

According to the author the falling object rules do not allow a save and the boat ought to be heavy enough to deal 20d6 (maximum falling damage.)

A Raven familiar is the recommended delivery mechanism.
