Here's the info for spellcasters and high ability scores:  http://www.d20srd.org/srd/theBasics.htm#abilitiesAndSpellcasters  Note the line that says "In addition to having a high ability score, a spellcaster must be of high enough class level to be able to cast spells of a given spell level."  That might throw a rather large wrench into this whole thing depending on how it's interpreted.
That's another good point.
You're welcome. And I've always read it as applying to Bonus spells and not other traits. FAQ already attempts to explain the difference between simply casting spells and inheritance and only the latter meats Feat requirements.

Technically DMs have been ruling such for years. When has any DM let you into a Caster PrC because you can functionally cast X level of spells using UMD and Scrolls? The quest for early entry has always been a give or take ground of the goal and appeal of rules handling.

There's also this: you can only get open spell slots when preparing spells for the day.
http://www.d20srd.org/srd/magicOverview/arcaneSpells.htm
Specifically this: "When preparing spells for the day, a wizard can leave some of these spell slots open."

If you'll look closely, nowhere is there any mention I can see regarding gaining new slots. Just leaving open pre-existing slots.

The slots don't exist until you sit down to prepare spells. There is nothing to leave open until you do that.

That is incorrect. There is nothing in any text I can see supporting this. Slots are filled and expended, but they still exist.

Which at the very least puts a timer on Versatile Spellcaster.

No. Not at all. Once Elf Wizard has done it's thing, it's totally self-sustaining.
