i want to use a cleric base, with a 1 level dip in conjurer, so that i can use the rapid summoning variant:

Quote from: SRD
Rapid Summoning (Ex)

Any time a conjurer using this variant casts a summon monster spell, its casting time is 1 standard action rather than 1 full round. (Creatures so summoned can only take a standard action in the round they are summoned.) Conjurers using this variant gain the normal benefits from enhancing a summon monster spell with the Quicken Spell feat.

A conjurer using this variant permanently gives up the ability to obtain a familiar.

and have that in turn apply to the summons from the cleric spells.

would i get a book tossed at my head for that?

Nope, that's pretty straightforward.  Sucks that you're giving up Abrupt Jaunt, though.

Malconvoker already makes you lose 1 caster level; losing another one for an ability that can be acquired via a metamagic rod is not a good deal. You'd always be 1 full spell level behind full casters.
Oh, and stinking cloud has to be one of my favorate battlefield spells. Combined with sleet stor, you can shut a group down and keep them shut down, trapped inside a fart. When does that ever get old?

abrupt jaunt is great.  but the INT of this character wouldnt be very high anyway so at most it would only once a day at best.

mm rods are only 3/day.  this can be used for free on every summon ever.   you are right that 1 CL is a high cost though...

One of the better abilities of the Malconvoker is Fiendish Legion. It's huge, you get twice as much power per spell. However, if you didn't lose caster levels, you could use your higher slot spell to summon 1d3 creatures from the lower level, which averages to 2, or you could summon a more powerful (or versatile) creature available only to the higher level list that might be the perfect tool for the job. If you lose 2 caster levels, you're just as good at summoning as a regular caster, but you're worse at the rest.

Dipping 3 levels of Shadowcraft Mage and DMM heighten is cheesy.  This is straitforward and, as people pointed out, possibly suboptimal.
