The world has never been a safe place. Bastions of civilization populate a dark, menacing world—islands of order and reason exist in a land otherwise overrun by dark cults, vile monsters, creatures from the dark edges of the imagination, and very much worse.
One such point of light is the Delimbyr Vale. Also known as the Gray Vale, a quiet frontier land bordered by mountains. It is inhabited by mostly sleepy farming communities, villages, and small cities. No monarch has held sway over the Gray Vale for a long time. Each town has a governing council that is made up of minor nobles and some wealthier merchants or landowners, managing the affairs of its area in relative peace with their neighbors. The Vale stretches roughly 300 miles from north to south, and is 100 miles at its widest. These are mostly soft borders as they grow and shrink over time with the ambitions of prospectors and settlers. The hard borders are the Graypeak Mountains to the east and the Nether Mountains to the North. The Delimbyr and Grayflow Rivers flow throw the Gray Vale bringing trade goods in an out.The large town of Loudwater sits at the southern end of the Gray Vale. It is a thriving trade community that is located at where the two rivers meet and the starting point for your adventures. It has seen its share of excitement over the years, most recently was the center point of a war 50 years ago.
About a week or so journey to the north lies the city of Sundabar and its fortress Warcrown’s Watch. Its presence on the northern border along the Nether Mountains keeps the entire vale safe from the occasional Orc incursion from the Many-Arrow held lands beyond.
Over the Graypeaks to the east is the lands of Evereska. An Eladrin city shrouded in fey mists and the mesas and hills on that side of the Graypeak range. The spellplague several centuries ago weakened the border between the city and the feywild so that is no resides in both places at the same time. Agents of Evereska can be seen in the vale from time to time, and giant eagles and griffons are sometimes seen flying from the mountains to the High Forest and back. The Town of Loudwater
One of the largest settlements of the Vale, Loudwater is a prosperous farming community and a popular river caravan stopover on the shores of the Delimbyr. Orchards of apples and pears follow its winding banks. Fields of grains and other produce are found on the farms that surround the town. Loudwater is the home of Lady Moonfire. A half-elf who’s maintains a large manor within the town’s walls and is the head of the town's council. The council also consists of 12 others, two thirds of which are hereditary land owners and the rest of the positions are held by various guild masters.
Population: 6700, plus another 1000 live within a 5 mile radius of the town. The town’s population is mostly Human (68% Human, 10% Half-elf, 6% Dwarf, 5% Halfling, 5% Tiefling, 4% Elf, 1% Dragonborn, 1% other). The towns numbers swell by several hundred when a number of connected Halfling clans, known as the “River Folk” come to town.
