Tron: Legacy

So the client wanted to watch Tron: Legacy on FX, and I had to watch it as well.

So, me and my co-worker got to talking about the movie as it progressed and I had the question:

Me: Wait a sec, if Clu is going to pilot that flying super carrier into the real world, won't it appear in the basement of the video game parlor and, I dunno, materialize inside of solid rock?

Co-worker: Nah, When the kid went into the video game the entire room went pixel. I'm sure the giant flying supercarrier will appear in the sky over Brooklyn.

Me: I can buy that.

So, time passes, we get to the end of the movie. The chick/computer program makes it out into the real world. I turn to my co-worker...

Me: Uh... She doesn't have her spinny disk thingie.

Co-worker: So?

Me: She doesn't have any of her light cycle, flying machines of energy crap. She's flesh and blood.

Co-Worker: Okay...

Me: So. If Clu managed to fly his super carrier into the real world, it would manifest over the city for a brief red-glowing second before it de-rezzed. All those, say... a hundred thousand? programs would be turned into flesh and blood, wearing red-glowing uniforms, but floating in mid-air.

Co-worker: And... they'd start to fall.

Me: Yes. A hundred thousand warriors plunging out of the sky, littering the streets and rooftops of Brooklyn with broken bodies. The streets would run red with blood.

Co-worker: Maybe that's why Flynn thought the invasion was so horrible.

Me: He blew everyone up! He killed every program on that super carrier! If they were just going to die as soon as they came through, why didn't he just give Clu the damn disk and let him fly everyone to their death?

Co-Worker: ...

Co-Worker: I hate this movie.

Me: I want my two and a half hours of my life back.

Huhhhnn ... now I gotta re-watch it, just to find out I why shouldn't have.

this is not a great movie. many consider it flat out bad.

i like it, its pretty 

its plot is far from perfect.

i like when morpheous takes neo into the computer, er wait thats different.

it seems like flynn can bring up a console when ever he wants and exercise some sort of SU / root control. he can sudo kill -9 clu at any time.

Nah, Clu just relocated his program to a hidden partition on a virtual machine, which has a backdoor to circumvent the jailbreak/firewall system and get root any time he wants, while being unable to be detected due to rerouting his commands through the shell program he sneakily installed, making it appear they're being run from inside the system.

basically none of those concepts existed when the legacy system was turned on.

As far as Captn's complaints though, it is easier to think that there was a buffer installed. A filter of sorts like a star trek transporter. Clu could have disabled it for his troops.

In other owrds, Clu knew more about his universes laws than us, and he had ways of making things work.
