Master Earth can't be blocked by Dimensional Anchor, right?
« on: February 27, 2013, 02:07:34 PM »
Master Earth is a 7th level Druid transmutation spell from SpC.  It is personal range, and moves you through the earth to any point in or on the earth.

Being transmutation, is it not subject to being blocked by Dimensional Anchor or Dimensional Lock?  You never leave the material plane when using it, unlike teleportation effects, which make use of the astral plane (or variantly, the ethereal plane).

Quote from: Dimensional Anchor
Any creature or object struck by the ray is covered with a shimmering emerald field that completely blocks extradimensional travel. Forms of movement barred by a dimensional anchor include astral projection, blink, dimension door, ethereal jaunt, etherealness, gate, maze, plane shift, shadow walk, teleport, and similar spell-like or psionic abilities. The spell also prevents the use of a gate or teleportation circle for the duration of the spell.

Dimensional Lock has the exact same wording.

If you never leave the material plane in any way, it's not extradimensional travel, therefore not restricted.

I agree.
The spell's description seems to indicate you're carried by the earth itself (down a rabit hole?). If that's the case, you don't actually leave the Material plane, so it's not subject to the effects of Dimensional Anchor.

Excellent!  I just had an idea for a Druid BBEG, and this will help him escape my PC's, should the need arise.

Also consider that the core spell tree stride is a druid conjuration (teleportation) spell that isn't barred by name in dimensional anchor.  It's another teleportation spell that doesn't rely on extradimensional travel.

Ehem...

Quote
Teleportation

A teleportation spell transports one or more creatures or objects a great distance. The most powerful of these spells can cross planar boundaries. Unlike summoning spells, the transportation is (unless otherwise noted) one-way and not dispellable.

Teleportation is instantaneous travel through the Astral Plane. Anything that blocks astral travel also blocks teleportation.

Lightning Leap, from Complete Mage, cannot be blocked, either.  It's not a teleportation, instead it transmutes you into a bolt of lightning, and you reform at the end point.  Note that this spell has only a verbal component, so it's also very effective against grapples.  Firestride Exhalation (from Dragon Magic), however, does have the teleportation descriptor, and so will still be blocked.
What do I win?
An awesome-five for mentioning Penny Arcade's On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness.
