Substiutes for Turn Undead?
« on: April 11, 2013, 07:49:12 PM »
My fellow nerds,

I'm writing a small setting for a one-shot that can become, if all works well, a new campaign.

I'll alter some classes, the Paladin being the first, using variants from 3.5 books.

My Paladins will use the Holy Warrior (Bonus Feats, no Spellcasting; Complete Champion) and Charging Smite (No Mount, Double Bonus Damage using Smite with Charge attacks; PHB2).

And I want very much do lose Turn Undead. It's an awful ability, useless for it's original purpose.

I found no comprehensive list of variants for this class feature, and my hands-on search didn't came up with much.

You, smart people, care to help me find an alternative?
Ooh, I'll top the bill, I'll overkill
I have to find the will to carry on
On with the show
On with the show
The show - the show must go on

Here is a list of alternate class features and substitution levels, arranged by class.  Several of these replace Turn Undead.
If none of those fit, I suggest giving your paladins their choice of a Devotion feat, and replacing Turn Undead with an appropriate number of uses/day of the feat.

Or, you could make all paladins Crusaders (Tome of Battle) and call it a day.
I'm not arguing, I'm explaining why I'm right.
