Pyromancer Stuff
« on: April 26, 2013, 12:04:15 AM »
For a fire spell sorceror, what's out there to boost CL/effects of fire spells? I'm making an ECL 4 character and have access to dragonborn, but otherwise have to stick with canon races. No dragon mags or online stuff. Most books are a go.

I'm planning on taking Bloodline of Fire (the feat), Spell Thematics, Fiery Burst, and eventually metamagic reducers and empower spell.

Are there any spells that you recommend over scorching ray? Either fire spells or others that I can use energy sub on?
I appreciate the logical, cool-headed responses and the lack of profanity displayed by our community.

Searing Spell.

Edit:
So I totally just got really excited and posted this feat (Yay, something I can help with!). Only later (now) did I realise what you were actually asking. My bad.

Orb of Fire is nice as it can take away actions in addition to damage.  You can't get it for a few levels though.  Until then, yeah, Scorching Ray works.

There is always Reserves of Strength to boost caster level in general.  There is also the trait that gives you +1 caster level for a school and -1 caster level to all other schools.

There's a 1st level spell in SpC that boosts damage of fire spells by +1 per damage die for its duration.  I think it's called Raging Flame.  Good spell to get on a wand and have a familiar cast for you.

Searing Spell.

Don't feel bad.  Even if it's not what he asked for, any fire caster build needs that feat to remain viable.  Too many fire-protected things out there.

Produce Flame.

Seriously, if you can get it onto your spell list, it is really nice for a first level spell.

A bunch of touch attacks and a light source? That last a damn long time?

Look into Persist Spell
Fire Shield & Wreath of Flames can both be Persisted, and while 1d6 Fire damage doesn't seem openly powerful MiC has a Ring of Mystic Fire, for 7,500gp each you can dump all the charges for +4d6 to the base spell.

That means 5d6+CL (max 20) Fire damage to anyone that hits you. And +5d6 Fire damage to all your attacks with an additional 5d6 fire damage dealt to anyone near you at the start of your turn.

Go for broke. Also, Energy Substitution[Fire] Acid Stealth also applies more onhit damage. Up to 30 Fire. Additionally all Acid Fire spells you cast deal +1 damage per die. After Admixture, So now we're talking +10d6+10 Fire damage on all attacks & start of round and opponents that hit you take 10d6+60 Fire damage. Awesome.
