Looking for a way to change form in antimagic?
« on: May 16, 2013, 02:54:43 AM »
Really having issues trying to come up with a way to shape-change, wildshape, or the like while in an antimagic field.. My GM likes to mess with us and I'd like to find a way to change form despite antimagic.

Any ideas?

Antimagic requires a line of effect. Block that, and you're good, although most transformations are suppressed in an AMF. Even the Alternate Form of, say, a werewolf is suppressed. So, the question  becomes, how do you block a line of effect to yourself completely?

The Gold Dragon Elixir from Draconomicon lets you Polymorph as an Extraordinary ability after consuming.  The item itself is also nonmagical.

The Bound Spirit template from the Dragonlance: Age of Mortals has the Malleable Visage (Ex) ability.  Creatures of 1 to 11 HD use Alter Self at will, creatures of 12 HD and more can use Polymorph at will.

Meh, the book has a big sticker / logo that states "Official Wizards of the Coast Licensed Product".  And I see the War Mage PrC from that same book suggested often enough around these parts.  Better than 3rd party or homebrew.

Wait so hearsay from teh internets for 2e conversions you find canon but not a dragonlance book?

Btw you'll have to unethereal and corporealize yourself if you go spiritbound. LA+4 is heavy even for a ghost.

Licensed product =/= published by WotC.

Depends quite a bit on what one finds acceptable. I find the "only WotC" thing rather silly in and as itself, too, as there's some interesting third-party stuff about, which is no more broken(over or under) than WotC's stuff.

Licensed product =/= published by WotC.

Licensed product = official material.

regardless of who published it. that is WotC's definition of official.
