Way to wield a two handed weapon and a light weapon?
« on: June 19, 2013, 03:10:23 AM »
My character wields a two handed greatsword.

Recently, he got a Talon Scepter (MIC-210) which is a +1 flaming light mace that also allows him to make a ray attack (1d6 fire) as a swift action.

Is there a way to keep both hands on the greatsword, but still use the mace for what amounts to a free attack every round?

Add Dancing (+4)?
Yeah not a good option.

Buy Animate Object casting?
Buy Permanency casting?
Go buy a casting of Awaken Construct now :D
Then take Leadership and give your Talon Sceptor class levels in a caster class. ;)

How about an item of Girallon's Blessing? 27000gp for command word, 45000gp for continuous, asusming your DM allows them for that price.

Hold greatsword in one hand, mace in the other. Activate spell. Now hold greatsword in 3 hands (2xstr damage instead of 1.5x) and mace in one.

OK, that's a lot of investment for 1d6 per round...

There's a third arm item in MiC (reprinted from Eberron), which might work, depending on what kind of character you're playing.

Maybe you could work on some sort of customized wand chamber type of arrangement?

Is that the Spare Hand (MIC-137)?  I can't activate items it's holding, but I can swap back and forth as a free action, so it may work.

Looks like a Glove of Storing (DMG-257) also allows retrieving/storing an item as a free action.

Or, if you're able and willing to spend a barrel of money, you have the "Casting Glove" (MIC, p.84) for 20k. It allows you to activate or consume the item, without retrieving it to the hand.
Also handy to carry metamagic rods, wands, potions and stuff...

Wow.  That glove does the same thing plus True Strike, for 1/3 the cost.  Thanks.

Thanks.  I knew there was a glove like that somewhere, but for the life of me I couldn't remember what it was called or which book it was in.  It'd be perfect except for the cost.

In truth, I may pass the Talon Sceptre to the sorcerer in the group.  He can use a light mace, and it doesn't really matte if the damage comes from him or me -- except I'm playing a Goliath who are supposed to be competitive.  Plus I hate to break up a complete set of the Regilia of the Phoenix, especially since I'll probably never have it again.

Swapping back and forth as a free action may be sufficient for your purposes.

Also, a wacky suggestion, what about a Beholder mouthpick?

According to the Permanency Handbook, obtaining a casting of both Girallon's Blessing and Permanency might also be a solution.

Where's skeleton hand from?

Amazingly, when I typed "skeleton hand graft" into Google, I only get 1 reference to a D&D site.  Adding "3.5" helped, but not much.

Oh sorry... Libris Mortis at the end of the magic item chapter.

you're limited to 5 grafts, but 5 skeletal hands for 15k is scary. That's 5 extra weapons. Or, if you go the 5k fiendish arms, you can use 5 weapons in hand AND 5 sleeve blades and 5 elbow blades from Complete Scoundrel!

Prehensile tail or some such, but you probably don't qualify

Found it.  Libris Mortis, p80.  Thanks.

I know this won't be helpful for your current character, but you could always play a Beguiler (the possum-like creature from Shining South, not the class), who can wield items in his prehensile tail.

why not all of the above? :-p

7 hands and 1 tail = ~22 attacks (before iterative is added)

with prehensile tail, can you wield a weapon and a tail blade?
