A Plea for Help
« on: June 19, 2013, 02:27:49 PM »
So... it will come as no surprise that this campaign is currently inactive. My D&D time has been curtailed rather drastically for the near future, due to baby+3yo+workload for last year of PhD thesis, and while I've been (for the most part) managing to update the rest of my PbPs in dribs and drabs, this one has fallen by the wayside (partly because it's so enormous).

However, I don't want to just abandon it.  Not only am I not inclined to abandon things normally, but everyone involved (myself most of all) has put a ton of time and effort into getting this thing going.

So, what I'm asking for is some help. I need volunteers to take over the day-to-day running of the various team threads so that everyone can participate again. I was thinking that a player from one team could run the threads for another team, since you guys are (theoretically) all invested in having this progress, but other arrangements are certainly welcome.  I wouldn't be throwing my assistants to the dogs --  I want to delegate, not abdicate, and I'll still be around to design plot stuff. I just don't have the time to maintain so many threads.

So... thoughts? Volunteers? Hecklers?

i like the idea of members of a different team running another team.
maybe you could give that person a brief idea of where you want it to go?

the only 'problem' i see is related to TvT possible conflicts of interest.

i've got a decent amount of off time that could be used.

you could be more like a moderator?

My intention had been for there never to be TvT stuff except vs NPCs. Theoretically teams could work together, but I don't personally like running PvP very much.

And being a moderator would be perfect. Of course I'd help out whoever ends up running each team.

I'm on roughly a million teams, but if you need me to help out I can certainly do that.

I feel your pain, but I haven't even managed to find time to restart my own PbPs, and things are only going to get worse at the end of the summer. :(

I'd like to offer assistance, although I don't know how much help I can be given that I'm not up to running a game, either.

I've never run a PbP and haven't DM'd in many many years so I don't think I'd be much help either. :(

...due to baby+3yo+workload for last year of PhD thesis...
I'm on the last year of my PhD as well; I can't even imagine the responsibility of two children on top of it all.

I would love to help out, but I've barely played in any PbP due to game stall, let alone actually DM'd one.

Still, I'm willing to help with other aspects. Perhaps I could maintain battle maps? Or something of a similar nature?

Re: everyone who has offered help, thank you! I didn't expect this campaign to balloon quite so much as it did... naive, I know.  Lol.

Anyone who has never DM'd pbp before, this is a great way to start since you won't be doing it alone. If you don't feel comfortable, though, of course I can't and won't make you. :p

Yeah, it's pretty rough. Luckily both my and my wife's schedules are extremely flexible, with most of the work done at home, so it's manageable... at the moment...

I actually find this one of the most tedious and irritating parts of PbP, so if someone else wanted to take it over, that would be hella awesome.

For anyone who's willing to try DMing a team, it's up to a particular team who they want to run their version. Why don't you take a look at the IC threads and see if one catches your fancy?

I have a suggestion, to start things off: Boz, since you & I discussed options for the Team Leviathan foes, you could take over there if you want.

WHat style of campaign are most of the groups?  Most of the ones I've run are either absurd goofiness or bleak despair.

Like Nan and Zook, I have very limited experience in this kind of thing, but I'd possibly be willing to try if it meant HA kept going.

Teams I'm not on (a shorter list than the ones I am on): Nameless, A Team, Stark Industries, FFA

A-Team will need some sort of reworking in any case. When TravelLog was away, Agita joined, but before we could get it started back up TravelLog became active again.

i'm only in Brute Squad, and it is part-silly/part-serious ;)

i would think that we should roll randomly for teams, just so that everyone's team has a fair chance of being continued.

i might try to do multiple teams, as long as its not too tedious (like help w maps, etc.)

i was surprised it wasn't TvT, thats just what it felt like it would be, when i joined.

plus i have a couple guys i was thinking of submitting for a team, that i haven't since things got really slow

If The Nameless keeps going I might have to drop out, I won't be able to level up because Spellshaping is in the middle of getting overhauled but DonQuixote has a bunch of real life stuff that's delaying that indefinitely.

I wouldn't worry too much about that. Level up using the rules as they are, then rejigger if needed once the rewrite is done. I strongly suspect, SirP would be fine with that. It's what I intend to do with my spellshaper characters.

If you're talking to me, that's the only group I'm in.   :P

I actually am not big on doing that, if for no other reason that I'd have to build my character up from scratch and then level him up...

If the game keeps going I could always swap him out I guess, or let someone else have my spot.

Spellshaping is being tweaked, not rewritten entirely. I doubt you'll have to change enough to require rebuilding your character.
