I found a race I'm interested in playing, and I have a backstory already ready, and the class really doesn't matter - but alas, the race has +2 Dex/Cha, -2 Con, which translates, to me, as "sorcerer" since my DM bans Sha'ir. I've never played a sorcerer before, and I'm uncertain of what you can really do with one other than damage - they lack so much of the wizard's versatility and I'm uninterested in being only capable of one action.

It's slightly easier to break the action economy due to a few sorcerer only spells that let you cast multiple spells with one action (assuming you get the ability to Quicken spells somehow, likely via the ACF). And of course, they can do battlefield control just as well as a wizard, because you only really need a few awesome spells for that.

Wizards have the exact right tool for every job, especially if you give them a little extra time to fill spell slots they leave empty. As a Sorcerer, you don't have the exact right tool for the job - but you'll have something close enough at any given point in time.

As far as doing things "better" than a Wizard, other than action economy (thanks to (Greater) Arcane Fusion, for example) I can't think of anything. But if you're only complaint about a class is that it's not as good as Wizard, I think you're fine.

The most important thing for you is spell selection. What level are you starting at?

I am not completely sure, but I expect around level 3.

There are certainly ways to increase sorcerer versatility.  Shadowcraft Mage comes to mind (organization adaptation).  There is also an expanding spell list thread somewhere on here.

Beyond that... take flexible spells?  Buy more scrolls?  Staves?

Runestaves are a tremendous resource for sorcerers, once you can afford them. Load one up with all of the spells you want to cast 1xday as buffs (Heart of Water, Anticipate Teleport, etc) and call it your Combat Staff, and another with things you might want to use in your "offtime" (Fabricate, Shrink Item, Divination, etc).

In addition, I always liked Wings of Cover.  2nd level slot to instantly negate a majority of attacks?  Sure only stops one attack on a full attack, but most targeted spells are suddenly countered with no CL check.  Pretty epic.

Bloodlines feats from DrComp can expand your repertoire. Is homebrew allowed?

They can cast in armor via stalwart battle sorc. They also qualify for Abjurant Champion quickly- allowing entry to this nice PrC without undue delay.
the most important thing for sorcerers is adding more spells to thier spells known.  so they have some thing to do with all the spells per day they get. you could use the heritage feats for that.

Ummm... Im drawing a blank for other stuff  :P

I honestly don't know, but I'd prefer not to rely on it.

I'll check the other things people suggested, thank you!
