If I had my way, I would never watch TV, would only use it for video games, and would certainly have no cable subscription. However, my girlfriend loves to watch the news, science channel stuff, and some reality television occasionally. When she watches it, I am subjected to it, but it can be fun once in a while to spend time with her like that.

I only watch TV for Mythbusters, but even then I can go onto Youtube and find full episodes just fine. The TV is otherwise used for Netflix and Xbox.

I'm not sure I'd even use it for Netflix.  Their recent price-jacking and the related lawsuit have made me leery of giving them any more money.

There are free streams for most anything. I honestly don't care enough to pay to see a bunch of mediocre TV shows. The ones I truly like after seeing them, I try to buy. This holds true for, say, The Sopranos.

Luckily I'm Canadian, so I'm not expected to be a font of pop culture knowledge.  Plus practically everyone I know knows I'm a gamer geek, so...

My boss, who is already incompetent and undeserving of the salary they* receive (I estimate in the 40,000s, not great, but serviceable), might win a bonus of $5,000, which is about equal to three months of work for me because of horrible hourly wages and not-great hours. My boss does work more hours being on salary, but since I started many of the things my boss used to do are now done by my position, in addition to the things my position normally did. And additionally I'm more than willing to work more hours. I'm completely disgusted by this. I already know multiple members of the management make six figures.** The gross inequity in consideration of the amount of work actually done is making me really want to find a new job, even if it makes me look like a "job hopper" on my resume.

**And they had the audacity to complain about not being able to get raises this year (to the tune of a few thousand dollars each year from what I can find in public records) because of the current political climate regarding administration.

Yep...

My light-and-sound hypersensitivity has hit the point where I have to go to school in sunglasses and earplugs... and while they help a ton (with earplugs, I can actually block out ambient conversation! Woo!), I can't go through all my classes wearing them, especially the earplugs.

You see, I live in upstate New York, where there are two vocal ranges: soft-spoken (rare), and obnoxiously loud. I swear, I don't know if its just the fact that I'm sensitive to sound or what, but at times it feels like people shout at the person right next to them when they talk.

And I am required to participate in class discussions (which are a joke, but that's a topic for another time), so I have to keep the earplugs out, because most of the soft-spoken people I encounter are the ones with the actually interesting opinions.

Other fun things that are (tentatively) connected to my sensitivities are the fact that I can't drive a car (I get behind the wheel, and I go into a long, drawn out anxiety attack), and I can't be in groups of people without effort (it varies depending on the day; sometimes, I can attend a decent size party and not feel the utter horrific crush of people until I'm an hour-and-a-half in, and sometimes I start stressing out when a group goes above four people.) I can also smell the stench of humanity in practically every public place; I have almost no sense of smell otherwise.

However, on a "he's abso-bloody-lutely out of his mind" note, I'm going to the Anime Boston convention this Spring; you see, my facial hair looks almost exactly like Ikari Gendou's, so... I feel obliged. Wish me luck!

EDIT: This started out as a small rant; I'm sorry it didn't stay that way. If anyone wants me to move it, I will.

Eh, I don't think there's any actual length limit.

To give you something else to rant about, how are college applications going?
“Hast thou not felt in forest gloom, as gloaming falls on dark-some dells, when comes a whisper, hum and hiss; savage growling sounds a-near, dazzling flashes around thee flicker, whirring waxes and fills thine ears: has thou not felt then grisly horrors that grip thee and hold thee?”

I was pretty afraid of driving (not anxiety-attack-level, but deeply ingrained avoidance) up until recently.

Have you tried exposure therapy techniques? For instance, make it a goal, with no intention to drive whatsoever (even tell yourself you aren't going to drive), to sit behind the wheel for a minute. Work your way up from there. Get to a point where you start the ignition (and sit there, but don't drive, don't even necessarily take it out of park the first time). Then put it into drive and take off the emergency brake. And so on.

Personally, I just had to jump in head-first and try driving on the street (I had no problem with parking lots and such, but had a lot of worry, thinking, "What if I do something wrong and cause a crash?" mostly stemming from much deeper issues that aren't entirely resolved).

I just finished vomiting up all of my organs and shitting out the rest. Good lord, I feel terrible. At least it's finally over.

I'm afraid to eat, though, because every time I drank water to make sure I don't die of dehydration, I threw it up again.

This sucks a golfball through a hose.

Keep drinking water

Throwing the water back up is much better than the dry heaves trust me.

It's been ages since I've been to New York, but I felt that this was true in NYC five-ish years ago. I thought it was only me, but maybe we are right.

Crappy public transportation is a bitch. No way you could ask your friends to help out with the car problem?

At least it could cause small rants if people start whining about it, right? As DonQuixote pointed out, I doubt there is a real word limit here, so I would not worry.

As for driving in general, I do not own a car. So whenever I am studying I don't drive at all, but once back in Finland I occasionally borrow a car from a friend or my Father. Getting back here in the middle of snow always causes some excitement when I drive for the first time in several months and all the roads are a bit icy.

I hate driving. No panic attacks or issues or anything, just... all the drivers in this town seem to be assholes to the noob. Then there's the fact that I'm a Physics major, and can't take my mind off the sheer amount of kinetic energy that's cruising around on the street.

On the depressing side, I have to drive tomorrow, after having been out of practice for months. On the birght side, that'll be the final part of my schooling, and then I'll never have to drive again if I don't want to.
