Been playing inFamous 2 and given a number of my posts are endless blocks of text bitching about how many possible ways a developer can design a deeply flawed peace of shit before handed it to a bunch of trained cock sucking whores called "game testers" but paid to say the game works thus shortening development time but I'd have to say inFamous 2 really isn't bad. The game hasn't crashed on me so it's better than foul smelling copypasted four fucking times over and still crashes vomit Ubisoft made and it doesn't has a sick twisted fetish to watch me to jerk off the wiimote.
I skipped inFamous 1 but apparently missed nothing that matters. Really, you can pretend 1 didn't exist after playing the first five minutes and coping up past references between you and your fat boyfriend as a fight in highschool over who gets to hit on some now dead chick. I suppose the big reveal on who the beast is becomes a little lost but I was a little disappointed in that area when I realized the beast was just a tall lava man with very little ferocity, or attacks, or intimidation, or well really anything. Basically the fight against him is spent kicked the shunned girl's ass and occasionally swatting at him like a pesky fly landing on your shoulder. The real antagonist on the other hand is at least memorable (because you chase and fight him multiple times) and actually does stuff to piss you off opposed to black and white screen messages letting you know how effective his hitch hiking has worked for him over the last for hours. I guess what I'm trying to say is the BBEG was pretty lackluster, retarded, and anticlimactic. Fuck em.
Other then the BBEG my other two complaints is the free-running system. Maybe thirty years from now games won't be unable to tell if you want to climb something or not, but not today. Unlike Batman omfg-I-Have-A-Sandbox Cole isn't totally helpless while standing awkwardly on a fire hydrant. However the game let's you freely replenish your health in seconds so your HP is some where between one hit death and one hit and a baseball to the face for death so there will be many times you attempt to fly and the game things you need to grab every rock or pole or wire or pigeon poop covered rail car near you. It will do this so forcefully that trying to jump from grinding on some electrical wires at thirty miles an hour makes you instantly stop, hitting an invisible momentum murdering wall of doom, so you can land on a wire you already slid past. Other times you'll jump at a wall and attempt to climb it but instead he never grabs it and just keeps kicking the wall until you fall to the ground and try again. There are in fact some ledges and window sills ignored unless Cole is in "climbing mode", seems more often than not this bug happens when rapidly moving from one area to the next as if the game is still loading the detailed texturing for climbing.
The last complaint is the bullshit of a karma system. Right after the real part of the game starts you can blow up some soldiers with a little collateral damage or not but have to fight your way through the area. This is how moral choice should be, evil takes the easy way, good takes the harder but more justice loving way. But they do away with that and soon your evil choices can be harder than your good ones and tend to be over the top retarded, like strapping several tons of dynamite to a rail car and murdering your way through half the town to crash it into the entrance of a building virtually killing no one so you'll just use your summon tornado power to wipe the entire entrance of bad guys anyway making the whole train thing a total fucking waste of time. The good guy side on the other hand gets mooks to pull aggro after some simplistic go fetch mission. anyway, depending how you killed people within the first few seconds you're granted a karma based upgrade that as near as I can guess would take you an hour to reverse so you'll locked in the moment you select it to begin with but the game pesters the shit out of you with moral choices. Further like always those who stay balanced get squat diddle dick, only those to the extreme sides get anything.
I beat the game on the good side, most of the NPC reactions worked out pretty well, I choose the synergistic good sided ice powers and loved the movement upgrade. My second play through I'm evil and fire enhanced and nothing makes sense and I swear the game is harder. Your bolt upgrades are shit, double grenade while great at clouding up your screen is worthless against helicopters and your movement upgrade is a fucking waste of time. Despite being role fitted as the guy that tells your sadistic devil colored skin bitch to open fire on helpless civilians you were still forcibly required to save a human sacrifice or gather hospital supplies for the people in side missions despite the very same activity plot wise being considered a good act. And for some reason the more even you become the more Cole looks like Dorian Grey's picture upstairs. Why even advertise moral choice if evil is basically picking hard mode at the start but with a plot line written by a monkey on LSD collecting random words shot out of a cannon like graffiti?
The only two benefits playing bad side is the fact you can murder the cop before disarming the bomb that would blow him up. An act that skips the good karma award but gives you a blast shard for doing. Really good side can just run around killing people for shards and make up the karma loss by fucking around in the city so it's not that big of a deal other than slowing your karma progression some and I've done less than half the side missions and hit level 3 right after obtaining my Ice/Fire powers so "slow" really means 40% of the way into it, cap the progression anyway. The last benefit is if you clear the game on both sides you unlock powers on either side. And I'm pretty sure you can just create a save file before the last missions which allows you to absolutely flip your karma and just reload it choosing the other option so you can pretty much skip evil mode even if you want to unlock all the powers. Dunno for sure, wanted to try the evil side.
Rent it, beat it on Good side. It's worth playing.
