Ask a simple question, Real World Edition.
« on: July 15, 2013, 10:26:03 AM »
I don't think I REALLY need to explain the purpose of this topic, so...

Here's mine:

I've got a computer set up where I'm connected to both the monitor + subwoofer and the TV. If I want sound on the TV, I have to go to the sound settings and switch the output. Then, if I want to listen from the subwoofer, I need to go to sound settings and switch it back.

It's a pain in the ass, though. I want to not need to set it. Any thoughts?

You probably need some kind of mixer or sound box.

So,
is your computer simultaneously connected to the TV AND the subwoofer and you want an easier method of switching where you output to that the sound panel?
is your computer connected to either the subwoofer OR the TV (at any oen time) and when you physically connect your computer to one of these you want the sound output to automatically switch?

The TV is connected to the computer's video card via HDMI cable, whereas the subwoofer is connected to the sound card.

Are you left-handed, right-handed, or ambidextrous?

Right-handed. I WISH I was ambidextrous. The only things I can do well with both hands is punch and swing swords.

I am having the same problem, but on a simpler scale, Kuroi. Your first problem about the sound, not the Kamen Rider belt.
I cannot for the life of me direct my Skype sound through my headphones while I play music through the speakers on my computer. I swear I've been into every audio settings panel, read half of the search results from Google, and created a shrine for each individual piece of the computer and associated hardware/software. AND IT DOESN'T WORK ;-;

For Skype, go to Tools -> Options.  There should be a drop down menu that lets you change your sound output to "headphones."  For your music player, there should be a similar option to make it always play through your speakers- how to do this will depend on which media player you use.  But if there's not, just set your speakers as the default audio device.  You can do this through Control Panel -> Hardware and Sound -> Sound.  Choose Speakers, and (with your headphones plugged in) choose "Set Default" down at the bottom.
I'm not arguing, I'm explaining why I'm right.

So this is an issue I've been having the past couple days and I was wondering if anyone knew how to fix it or what was wrong.  On YouTube, my videos are shifted down in a bit.  The window for the player isn't moved, but the playback inside the window is shifted down by around 10-20 pixels.  This puts a small black bar above the video itself, and a portion of the video is hidden behind the playback options (play, the timebar, volume, that stuff).  And before anyone asks, no, my mouse is not hovering over the video, that only makes the timeslidder bar thing get reduced, not the playback options.  This has happened before, but I can't remember how it got fixed...I don't even know what fixed it, for all I know it did it on its own.  For some reason I think that YouTube used to have even the playback options hidden when not moused over, but it's not happening now.  It's one of those things you don't pay attention to unless something's wrong, so I don't even know what the "correct" thing is anymore...just that it's not this.

I don't think so.  The size hasn't changed anyways, just the location.  You can see that black bar at the top, but not at the side.  Just tried that, doesn't do anything on YouTube.

I believe it's an issue with Youtube as it's been doing that since their latest update.  I have to say it's a fair bit annoying when watching videos with subtitles as they are hidden by the playback bar.  It's happened before so, with any luck, it'll right itself soon enough.

If you're ok with add-ons, there's one for Youtube called Magic Actions that has an option to "Auto-hide Player Controls" which fixes the issue.  It's available for Chrome and, I believe, Firefox.

Adblock Plus works fine for those.

Yup, but I don't know how effective it is as I also have AdBlock.
