Hi there, I was wondering if anyone here was also interested in pen and paper roleplaying games that were far more 'strategic' in bent, like where you are role playing a king, or the 'spirit of a nation' or something, and making big strategic decisions -- but with rules and such governing what is going on.  I've been modifying a system that one of the forum-goers on myth-weavers invented, and I am playing in a game where I am doing this.  I would like to invite some people here to perhaps be advisers/viewers for the game I am in, perhaps, or simply read the thread with the modified version of the rules that I am setting up, for a GM who expressed interest in it.  I'm also seeking a GM to take the modified rules I wrote and do something with them.

Anyway, the rules changes I am making:
http://www.myth-weavers.com/showthread.php?t=218691

The game I am in, where I am seeking advisers and folk to help me with strategy and writing turns: http://www.myth-weavers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=25713

The rules of the game I am in, different than the first writeup:
http://www.myth-weavers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=25713&tg=34410

The application I made:

Also, I am seeking people to chat with live about this (aim, yahoo, wlm, skype), for advice and such.  Maybe you could PM me and say you are interested in this and want to help? Thanks!

So you kind of want to make an rpg where PC's play city states as opposed to individuals?

I'm personally a big fan of both RTS and nation-turn-strategy computer games, so this definetely interests me.

However I'm still looking to get up to date on all my own D&D projects, so for now I won't be able to properly participate on this.

I'll be definetely taking a look at your rules and other links, and offer some advice here when I have the time.

I'm willing to take a look at it but I'm not sure when I'll have time, that's a lot to go through.  Like Oslecamo though when I do scrounge up the time I'll post here with my thoughts.

This is more turn based strategy; I give a list of computer games that it seems to be similar to in the thread that has 'my' version of the ruels.  Further, I'm looking for people to specifically be advisers for my in-game turns, which means having a myth-weavers account and applying to join the game as a player.

Like the others, I find the idea interesting, but finding time to look over a new system will be difficult if not impossible.

Put me in the list of "when I find the time..."
"There is happiness for those who accept their fate, there is glory for those that defy it."

"Now that everyone's so happy, this is probably a good time to tell you I ate your parents."

I've got time to look at the rules and give my view on them, but I don't have time to advise on a game.

Well whatever you can manage would be appreciated!

I'm pretty much entirely out of commission at the moment, but I'm posting in this thread so that I'll remember to come back and investigate this if I ever have time again.
“Hast thou not felt in forest gloom, as gloaming falls on dark-some dells, when comes a whisper, hum and hiss; savage growling sounds a-near, dazzling flashes around thee flicker, whirring waxes and fills thine ears: has thou not felt then grisly horrors that grip thee and hold thee?”

This does look interesting!  Unfortunately, the closest I ever got to something like this was a 2nd edition Birthright game, and the guy running that only got us through character creation and 1 session.  So I'm basically a fish out of water in this.
What do I win?
An awesome-five for mentioning Penny Arcade's On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness.

Technically, you are sorta the guiding spirit of a civilization, or perhaps the king of a city; regardless, you make some decisions for what happens in the city and what the city's overall actions are, and the disposition of the troops and people the king can actually order around, and you can found more cities if you want, though you generally don't have enough population to do that much... And I don't believe founding cities innately gives you extra actions, hence 'city-state wars' rather than 'nation-state wars'.

Got your PM Gavin and linked over to here. Between work, 3 kids, playing in one game and running 2 others; I simply do not have the bandwidth. Thank you for the offer though, sounds like a very interesting concept for a game.

Would it be worth mentioning Rogue Trader? You're still a party of adventurer's except one of you is captain of a space ship...and the space ship is larger than a city, some larger than countries. You can purchase armies...and teams of scientists and surgeons...and lots of grunts.

There's a lot of managing resources in that, your wealth per level is measured in profit margins. Also you can solve dungeon crawls with orbital bombardments... because you're supposed to.

I'm in a Rogue Trader game, and trust me, the gameplay is so completely and utterly different as to be a complete non-sequitur for this city-state game.

I noticed this in nation building:

Very Low taxation is 1 gold per 50 people, high taxation is 1 gold per 10 people, and extreme taxation is 1 gold per 10 people.
