In Game Quotes for Classes.
« on: November 13, 2011, 06:28:20 AM »
Apart from the obvious quotes, like Barbarian's "[Your Character's Name] SMASHES" or Paladin's "Begone Creature of Evil", have you any advice for some classes quotes?

I am not a very experienced player and i would especially like your help on a Human Cleric of Mystra.  :bigeyes

For clerics(and divine powered classes in general), I like to make up some scripture for them to be preachy over. Though Mystra is kinda tricky due to her broad domain.
Everything is edible. Just that there are things only edible once per lifetime.
It's a god-eat-god world.

Procrastination is the thief of time; Year after year it steals, till all are fled,
And to the mercies of a moment leaves; The vast concerns of an eternal scene.

Yeah, that Mystra is such a whore. I would have thought Sune would be the one to have the Broad domain, though

Our characters like to say "how hard could it be?"

I am personally fond of having a phrase that represents the characters method of problem solving. For example I once played a psion shaper whose thins was "I am legion" because of the whole construct army thing.

Think about how you plan to solve problems and then think about a phrase that represents that.

Religious characters are really easy to season with talk.  Tack on "[deityname] willing" when discussing the success of plans with uncertain outcomes.  "[deityname] commands" whatever you're doing, when you undertake an action that is especially in line with the dogma and practices of your faith.  You don't cast buff spells or recovery spells, [deityname] blesses you and your friends in times of need, just as [his/her] wrath smites those on the receiving end of your debuff, damage, and save-or-die spells.

When you meet other religion-oriented characters, especially if they're regular traveling companions, argue with them.  It needn't be bickering or a shouting match, but talk shop with them.  Take opportunities to point out why [deityname] 's works or way is more appropriate, more effective, or more ethical than the other.  When you outperform them in a given task, shun the credit and instead give it to [deityname], and when you don't, lament that [deityname] must work [his/her] miracles through such an imperfect vessel as yourself at this time.
"Whoops, forgot to roll my fire and holy damage."
"I doubt she's going to make a DC 111 Fort save, anyway."

One of my quotes with a lot of my characters is "Relax guys... I have a plan."  Interestingly enough, this seldom causes relaxation.

"Wizarding is expensive."
- Fresnick, gnome transmuter

"There's good eatin' on one a' them"
- Thugbut, half-orc barbarian

"You don't wanna be any use to us alive so I'm putting you in the soup."
- Thugbut again. Oddly, the halfling talked.

Sometimes it's the nonverbal stuff too. Like I had an illusionist who could be found eating turkey legs at the oddest times.

Examples
*half the town is on fire, another PC is archery'ing up some death to villains.
Tal: *comes out of the inn eating a turkey leg totally oblivious*, "what is going on out here?"
***
Guard: Tal, you're wanted for cheating at gambling games.
Tal: I won a lot of money last night, want half? *fails*
Guard: And bribing an officer of the law.
Tal: *pulls out a turkey leg and takes a bite*
***
Guard(s): You are wanted for numerous crimes, including resisting arrest and humiliation of an officer.
Tal: *eating a turkey leg* It wasn't me. *charms*
Tal: Hungry?

Sometimes it was real, some times it was an illusion, sometime, it was just a wand or knife with a figment laid over it and I really wasn't eating it. Fun times. :)

"Not in the face!"

"You know, when I was a mere acolyte, we used to ...."

"You know, back at the temple we used to ...."

"My aunt Petunia always says .... "

"I got just the spell for that!"

My favorite quote from one of my clerics is “I think no one dying is a really high bar to set.”

"And this one time, at Bard camp..."

I agree on the nonverbals though.  One of my friends had a wizard who made his own flask of neverending whiskey.  When the party's dwarf fighter did something stupid (which was often) he'd take a swig from it.

My cleric, of Ehlonna, Harlan, was a very free love kind of guy, and still got a lot of lovin' for a 50-year-old human (20 CHA, eh?). He had the weirdest childhood, though, before he became a cleric of Ehlonna.

He wanted to be a monk (European style :rolleyes) and attended a liberal college. I have him go on rambling stories about his youth frequently, and they always take a turn for the bizarre.
___
*while fighting gnomes*
I haven't seen so many crazy midgets since my roommate hired a troupe of halfling strippers for my 18th birthday!
That was the day I became a man...
___
*when offered a smoke*
Last time I smoked was ten years ago when I was mugged in a tobacco field. They left me nothing, and I subsisted naked on tobacco and field mice for two weeks!
But one smoke couldn't hurt...
___
He also dated a water nymph who made him a bobcat loincloth, that he still wears to this day. You can still see the empty eyes peering from his crotch when he walks around the house in nothing but a robe and that...
A smile from ear to ear
3.5 is disappointingly flawed.

Well, one I had for a past wizard character of mine when he hit level 9: "Walking? Riding horses? What is this nonsense you speak of? I has Teleport, bitches!"
Ninja vanish! *poof*

"Skunge must ponder this!"  --Skunge, half-orc Frenzied Berserker.  This was usually followed by about five minutes of pondering, typically over something absurdly simple.

"The building was on fire and it wasn't my fault." is a good Harry Dresden quote for any magic user/psion who specializes in using fire (especially Pyrokineticists).
