Could you describe the new mechanic a bit?

It will basically be every so many levels you get a Spell-Like Ability.  You then apply affects to it to change what it does.  For example lets say one is Blast.  It does 1d6 damage per level on a successful ranged attack roll with a range of 60'.  Effects you get every so many levels allow you to change the damage type or add descriptors, or add possible effects such as a save or be stunned.  Meta abilities you get every so many levels allow you to apply effects similar to metamagic feats every so many rounds.  For example an empowered blast you could use, but you need to wait 3 more rounds before using again.

How about calling it "a Dragonfire Adept's breath weapon" (or "Eldritch Blast")?  :D
I don't pee messages into the snow often , but when I do , it's in Cyrillic with Fake Viagra.  Stay frosty my friends.

Dis will be slightly different.  There will be other effects besides direct damage.

Sort of.  Except instead of just hitting stuff you have separate SLA's you can apply meta-effects to.

Latin roots you may be able to use:
elicio - elicit, call forth
excio - evoke

Only if you're going for some sorta poetry-themed term.

It might help if you described the mechanism from which these abilities are drawn--i.e.,  gaining power from nature, channelling divine ability, or unlocking the secrets of reality through intense study.

It might work out similar but it's not quite the same.
