Help with progression past level 19
« on: January 21, 2014, 08:31:19 PM »
Ok so here's what I'm working with and need some advice on my melee oriented cleric. We are heading to abolyth kingdom or under dark or nine planes of hell after clearing giant kingdoms and I am trying to plan past level 19!

Race: Dark Elf / Red Half Dragon (no level adj basically drow template minus innate abilities)
Alignment: Lawful Evil (evil campaign)
Classes so far: 5 cleric, 1 Sorcerer, 3 Ordained Champion, 10 Dragon Disciple

Stats with items:

Str: 34
Dex: 26
Con: 26
Int: 20
Wis: 26
Char: 24

Domains: War, Travel, Time (I had war before I picked up ordained champion)

Feats: Divine Shield, Dragons Breath, Law Devotion, Animal Devotion, Persistent Refusal, Combat Expertise, Weapon Focus Heavy Flail (war domain), Improved Critical Heavy Flail

Current gear:

Boots of Striding and Springing
Bracers of Armor +8
Gloves of Dexterity +6
Crown of Wisdom +6
Monks Belt
Amulet of Natural Armor +4
Ring of Protection +5
Ring of Greater Elemental Resist (+30) electric cold acid and sonic
Cloak of Resist +5
Vestment of unholy might +6 Str, +5 Will Save, +5 Concentration check. Heal or Slay Living once a day, Righteous Might three a day, Unholy Storm 3 a day. 15 caster level
+5 Heavy Flail of Frost and Collision
+5 Animated Tower Shield
Robe of +6 Charisma and Invulnerability 5/- dr

No Tome of Battle since we don't use it in our campaign.

Thanks for your input!

Anything that boosts cleric casting is hardly going to be a bad idea.

Without knowing how flexible you can be in terms of books/alignment/adaptation, here's a brief list of things to check for divine PrCs, if you have them at your disposal.

Eberron - Five Nations (Bone Knight)
Forgotten Realms - Faiths & Pantheons (Doomguard, among others)
Dragonlance - Holy Order of the Stars (Dark Pilgrim of Takhisis, among others)

For the lols, you might actually be able to qualify for Unholy Ravager of Tiamat out of Draconomicon, and could turn your limited sorc casting into useful divine progression.

Since you got a quite high Cha score... a couple of levels in Prestige Paladin for Cha to saves AND all the paladin spells? Arguably if the Paladin can have a LE variant, the Prestige Paladin should also be able to.
"Playing the first 6 levels in D&D is like watching the story intro at the beginning of an action/disaster movie: it's boring and the shorter it is, the better."

Well I would rather choose a prestige that progresses caster level then to go straight cleric. Doesn't bone knight require heavy armor?  I could find dark pilgrim or doomguard and Ravager of Tiamut would not be allowed by the dm nor the paladin variant. Anyone have any other ideas for a melee prestige that advances caster level?  Thanks for info this far!

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Base Attack Bonus: +4.
Skills: Craft (armorsmithing) 6 ranks, Knowledge (religion)
4 ranks, Ride 6 ranks.
Special: Ability to turn or rebuke undead.
Special: Ability to cast 1st-level divine spells.

1st level of Dragonslayer is a progression as well

Dark Elf / Red Half Dragon (no level adj basically drow template minus innate abilities)
...
Classes so far: 5 cleric, 1 Sorcerer, 3 Ordained Champion, 10 Dragon Disciple
...

You may not know that Half Dragon and Dragon Disciple
are for all intents and purposes the exact same thing.
Since you're getting the Half Dragon LA+3 for free,
you really really don't need DD at all.

Here's an SATs version of this:
Cleric +10 is to Pun-pun
as
DD duplicated is to Cleric +10

Your codpiece is a mimic.

I think that might be where the half dragon comes from.

Oh you're saying its an Elf,
that gets Half-dragon via the class.

(hmm ... if that's the case)
Well still the Half-Dragon template
is superior anyway, especially at
the parties level.  And LA+3 buy-off
is totally done around level 23.
