2048 is taking over my free time. It's so simple, but so addictive...
Oh my god I hate you for showing me that...

I somehow managed to beat it two days ago and refuse to open the window, knowing that I'll challenge myself to build a 4096, or (heavens above) an 8192 like that one guy in my Chem class...

Managed to get up to 512 before i gave up and quit... It's pretty non-intuitive at first, but then you get better at it. It's very much fun, but a little ennerving when you lose!

Seems to me the trick is that the game gets progressively more difficult each time one of your moves doesn't add tiles; so you can't spend more than two, maybe three moves getting two tiles together.

The trick is to ignore one of the directions completely. Work towards one corner with your high numbers. I haven't gotten to a 4096 yet, but I've beaten the game several times.

Personal ego boost.  Google "old school retro-clones."  A thread started by me is the 2nd result under the Wikipedia article.

Then again, That's Numberwang (2048-style)

...I just got 6,120 points and I don't even understand exactly what was going on.

It's exactly the same as 2048, except the numbers the tiles show is random.  Or rather, the characters are.  You have to pay attention to the color of the tile, since really that's all that matters even with 2048.  It's just easier to see what's what with 2048, cause the numbers stay the same and are easier to differentiate than two very similar colors.

I never even noticed that there was a color difference between an uncombined tile (2) and the first combined tile (4).   :lol

That was the source of most of my confusion with Numberwang.

Yeah, it's really hard to notice.  Also the difference between 32 and 64 is slight, and 128 and 256.
