I can confirm that a lot of working in IT involves googling for other people.

I cannot stress this enough. Any worth hiring to do IT is capable of finding basically any solution on google in about 1/10th the time it would take to figure it out manually.

People at my work seem to think I am some sort of Excel god because of this...

Yup. I can add Customer service to the list, too. Pretty much every customer question we answer has an answer on our website (or our competitors website, or facebook, or google, or the label of the product sitting on the table in front of our customer).

Caller: "Hi, I just got a bottle of your hand lotion, I love the way it smells, but I'm worried it might have x in it. Could you tell me what is in it?"
Agent: (picks up the bottle from our employee sample table, reads from ingredient list printed on the bottle)
Caller: "Thank you so much!"
Agent: (Bangs head on table)

Sorry for the doublepost, but this is just too good not to share: http://www.reddit.com/r/DnDGreentext/comments/2l6m1f/the_all_guardsmen_party_buys_a_ship/

The other stories are in the comments. Warning: THEY'RE LONG.

I never read much about Warhammer 40K, but what i read about it in this story makes me want to read all about it. And play it. It looks awesome.

I'm in my third hour.

I'm absolutely in love with the setting. Goddamnit, i still have to wrap up COLLEGE. I'm graduating soon, and there's shit needs to be done.

But, now i have to make up room for a new folder called "Warhammer 40k" in my computer, and proceed to avidly eating up the lore and mechanics in preparation for eventually taking part in something as awesome as this campaign.

You could always get into the RPG, there's Dark Heresy, Rogue Trader, and Deathwatch.  Dark Heresy is great if you wanna do things with guardsmen, and it's a class there.
What do I win?
An awesome-five for mentioning Penny Arcade's On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness.

I have an external HDD drive with... basically every RPG? I like the setting, but I'd rather play Rogue Trader or Black Crusade than GM or anything.

To the above: you missed Only War and Black Crusade.

I'm going for the RPG, yeah. I might read some of the books eventually, but i wouldn't even know where to start and the wikia has enough lore to tide me over for a while.

The wargame... Too much money & time would need to be invested into it to make it worthwhile and there isn't even a hobby scene to be spoke off where i live, so it would be fruitless in any case.

So far i'm being massively entertained by the prospect of playing in this extreme kind of grimdark futuristic RPG.

Dark Heresy is probably the best place to start.  It's the low-level range, where PCs start out slightly elevated above commoners.  Rogue Trader is more the mid-level stuff, and Deathwatch is high-level, where everyone is a veteran space marine.  I don't know anything about Only War or Black Crusade, so I can't say where they fit in the whole universe.

Black crusade is comedy gold if you have a black enough sense of humour. You play as chaos cultists/marines and do really unspeakable evil. Its usually hilarious

This gestalt E6 PF game, which has a hefty dose of WH ethos infused into it, will begin recruiting soon for PCs. I'll be playing in it, as a PC (I didn't get chosen to be the BBEG... which is also being played by a PC, in a separate, private thread... :D).

I don't know anything about Pathfinder... I'd be lost. Thanks for suggesting it, though!

It's pretty much 3.5 with houserules, and all of the rules are available online.
