Large-ish story about a villain whose ability to escape and elude the party makes them go batshit crazy about finally nailing him.

Also a good story about how you don't need to railroad the party in order to get them to follow your story. You just need to make them hate the bad guy enough...

And oh boy, did the DM make the party hate this dude...

Work Christmas  party. Normal, really. Cheesy entertainment, forgettable catering, not-quite meaningful speeches  from execs. No white elephant, instead they have prize raffles. About 45 people out of 1100 actually win something. The gifts mostly range from about $75 to $200, with a few standouts around 500. This is my third  party here. Nothing to see, really.

Tonight, I was the first name drawn. I went home with a brand new MacBook pro.

I don't mean to brag, but I'm still waiting for the catch.

It's a Mac
:p

Right now we're debating letting my wife keep it (she does like Macs, she's a teacher with no interest in video gaming and she's more familiar with the apple teacher aids than PC teacher aids), or selling/returning it for the 2k.

It's a surprisingly tough decision.

Nah, it's actually surprisingly easy.

Does she have a computer at present? Is it good enough for her? If so, return for the 2k. Otherwise let her keep it.

Unless you have something in mind for the 2k.

Hence the problem. When don't you have something in mind for 2k?  But it's a good problem to have, which is why I'm here and not in the bitch thread.

I never win stuff like this. If I'm lucky I get the wallet with a few $10 gift cards. Now I'm working really hard to not crow about it at work (which is why I'm feeling compelled to do so here).

Alright then: are your plans for the 2k something you REALLY need? Need? Kinda need? Would be nice to have?

Prioritization, my man, prioritization. S'how I'm planning on having any consoles that grab my attention AND a gaming PC.

For 2 grand, you could get an Xbox 1, PS4, Wii U, and still have about a thousand bucks left over for a sweet gaming rig.
I'm not arguing, I'm explaining why I'm right.

Well, if i were you... I'd sell it, buy an ultrabook with WINDOWS for about 500$ that'll have the same specs as the Mac, convert the wife to the masterrace, take her to a NICE dinner in a fancy part of town, complete with a new dress and shoes... Then with the spare $1k or so, i'd probably splurge a bit on Steam and put the rest on a savings account.

Just have to share a concept that makes total sense, and this thread seems best suited for it.

If something digital is not for sale in your area, so you have no way to buy it, then pirating it is not theft, as the distributor is not losing sales or product.
What do I win?
An awesome-five for mentioning Penny Arcade's On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness.

That's generally been the consensus we go by here.  :p

Around here I pirate on principle. 100% taxation on my games? Fuck you.  :shakefist

This is why fansubbing is tolerated by most anime studios overseas. They're not shipping their product there, and even if it's kind of possible to import anime... You still get JPN audio, no subs. So they go, eh, what the hell, at least it's free advertising :P

And most fansubbing groups are happy to stop once the work is brought over as a means to support the industry.

One of the few reasons Death Note and Naruto ever came this way was because of how popular their fansubs were in this neck of the woods.
