Useful feats for ranged sneak attacks, 3.5 or Pathfinder
« on: March 03, 2014, 04:31:21 PM »
I'll start with one I think might be useful, but likely much more so when combined with other things.

Quote
Hawkeye

Prerequisites: Far Shot, Point-Blank Shot.

Benefit: You gain a +2 bonus on vision-based Perception checks.

Additionally, attacks that require precision and are limited to a range of 30 ft, such as Point-Blank Shot, sneak attack, or the cover fire marksman class feature, have this range increased by 15 ft.

If you have 10 or more ranks in Perception, the bonus increases to +4 and the increase to range increases to 30 ft.

Crossbow Sniper comes to mind for something 3.5.

Shaped Splash seems like it might allow for double SA with a splash weapon.  Makes for a thematic halfling rogue build.

Woodland Archer has the moving sniper option, allowing you to move after each successful use of the sniping mechanic of Hide.

Demonic Sneak Attack (Fiendish Codex 1) - reroll SA damage dice

Craven is a popular one.  +1 dmg/character level.
Gloom Strike - trade 2d6 to impede target's vision for 3 rounds (target has to roll vs 20% miss chance0
Dead Eye - add dex bonus to dmg dice - doesn't even require SA

I could keep typing, but instead go to dndtools.eu where I've selected feats and added a filter of "precis" (for precision and precise).  Click through the various feats that sound good.  Replace "precis" with "sneak", "flank", "opportunity", "lose dex", and any other words that might apply.  You'll have more feats to choose from than you know what to do with.  Let us know what the best ones are.

Good luck!

That does seem to help a little, though of course that doesn't nullify the use of this thread. That website most definitely doesn't have every last 3.5 feat in existence, and it doesn't have ANY pathfinder feats.

Meanwhile, pretty much required for the build, a Pathfinder feat: Ranged Flank.

Didn't pathfinder completely nerf flask rogues? I remember reading that at the gaming den.

Yeah, a random bit of "you can't sneak attack with grenade-type weapons" nonsense.

(Honestly, I always ignored that.)

Well, aside from the mentioned ones (I <3 Shaped Splash) and the basics (Rapid Shot tree, Imp. Precise Shot; TWF tree for throwers)...

Shadow Blade (for dagger-throwing)
It's 3.0, but Quicker than the Eye was always handy for the times you didn't have or couldn't use a ring of blinking.
And the crappier but similar 3.5 feat, Deadeye Shot.
And Savvy Rogue is nice for any rogue.
