In 2005 WotC did actually have some people who knew about 3.5's subtitle of "caster edition." This article admits that casters start out powerful, ignore SR, focus in conjuration, and stay single classed. Wow. http://archive.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/tt/20050711a

 :twitch :o ...  :banghead ... WOW !!

That's like, umm, I might have to stop using Smiley Faces altogether Wow.

That PrC has a requirement of Knowledge: Gemology 4 ranks.  I'm still shaking my head at it.

And they didn't even properly update it to 3.5!  It has Intuit Direction.

Yeah that's dripping with 3.0 crap. Back in the days where they would just make up a skill subtype without even introducing it. Either you take it as is and force players to through away 4 ranks or you impose the "there can only be x" sanity here just like people usually do with languages or DR types.

Claws of the Savage (BoVD) is usually a decent buff spell for your claws, but it doubles as a no-save-just-suck spell.
It has no save and no spell resistance, so you can cast it on an enemy to have him grow non-prehensile claws over their hands.
That belongs in a list of spells I like to call "Anti-buffs" The usual tactic for applying antibuffs is to multicalss into something that can cast spells into weapons and then poke your enemies. Your DM can't even rule lawyer the magic target text on this like he can for persist metamagic. You just straight up kill your enemies with Transcend Mortality (CM121) + Tensor's Tranformation. They've got 17 rounds to dispel your spell and then they are toast. They can re-res/life 3 but there is no stopping this besides an outside dispel after they've been poked

Anti-buff's man. So dirty. I'll start a thread on it if people want.

I am so game for that!!
Seems like a fun project and opens up some curve-ball ideas for casters. I do get so bored using the same spells.

That would be a very interesting concept for a guide.
I'd help, but I don't have any further contributions right now.

It's a real thing. Considering the gemstone market, it's logical that specific evaluation of gemstones and fraud detection would be offered as a class to someone. Link

The Class is kind of nice too, as an 8 level dip you trade one ML for say;
* Aquamarine: +2 unnamed to your primary Manifesting Ability.
* Moonstone: +4 to AC & Saves.
* Sapphire: 50ft Touchsight.
* Malachite: 50ft Telepathy.

So long as you are Psionic Focused.

Speaking of Mind's Eye, Ballisteer

Grab a +1 Necromantic Starburst Ballista and solo entire Dungeons from outside by the 12th* level.
*Technically +3 BAB and 2nd level Powers by level 3 requires gestalt.

Or call weapon (catapult) + burrowing power, to play Dungeon: You sank my hobgoblin chief! Which can be pulled off by PsW1 if he takes metapower.

It needs to be updated to 3.5 rules but that looks pretty easy to do.

Why gestalt for 1 level earlier entry when the class only advances PsyWar which gets in on its own after 4th?

Still kind of weirded out on the SR article. Surely they just meant "Be an Illumian with Krau, and pick Practised Spellcaster if you want to dip a bit of multiclassing. Cleric domains are also nice so this sort of stuff makes SR redundant in any cases that SR counts in, if your DM thinks you'll pick bad spells, or wants to throw standard CR rating encounters at you. There's heaps of other stuff as well. Rely on items, they're really good."

It's highlight of possible earlier than normal entry.

Libris Mortis 156 and Monsters of Faerun 90 have rules for Good-aligned liches.  MoF has the most detail in it.

While this is on the Paizo forums, it still works in 3.5.
I cannot believe I never thought of this. :banghead

I've seen Time Hop used similarly, but with that you can actually pass through a locked door but leave it intact (and locked) behind you. :)

Ohhh! That's clever. I didn't get it at first, but you cast Time Hop on the door, it "disappears in a shimmer of silver energy, then reappear after the duration of this power expires." - While it's gone, you pass through it. Power ends, door reappears, in exactly the same condition as before, so there aren't even any signs of your tampering.

Veeeeeeeeery nice.

I grabbed the wrong URL.

But yeah. 15 HD for a CR 18 creature.

EDIT: The Restless Prey template also has a pretty borked special ability, Restless Prey Symbiosis.

They get a +2 Profane bonus to their Charisma score for every other Restless Prey within 30', which stacks. And you can apply this template to any Animal or Vermin. Have a backpack full of Restless Prey rats or whatever, and Ability Rip Restless Prey Symbiosis from one of them.

You can fit 8 Diminutive creatures in a 5' square; for every 5' square you fill, you get a +16 bonus to your Charisma score.

1. Make a Large flying throne.
2. Fill the base with Restless Prey Rats. 32 of them should do.
3. Ability Rip Restless Prey Symbiosis from a separate creatures.
4. Get a +64 Profane bonus to Charisma.
5. ???
6. Profit.
Again, 3e, but pretty easy to convert.

So, I'm going back to here as I was reading through this thread for the first time, and I considered how Swarms interact with this template. Swarms are a couple-hundred creatures by RAW, but does that mean the effective swarm's Charisma is astronomical, or does each Swarm count as an individual creature, meaning you'd need multiple Swarms? (I've also been considering if Hivemind rules would also be borked here, but even if they were, the bonuses aren't particularly significant on your typical swarm - you'd need a swarm of Fine creatures for the bonuses to actually mean something)
