Buff / heal bard
« on: May 12, 2014, 10:31:34 AM »
Hello people,

In one of my campaigns i want to heal a buff / heal bard so this is what i am thinking.
Ignoring my race (changeling for recaster) and stats apart from int (18) for skill points.

we start at level 8.

7 bard.                           to gain the levels need for war weaver.
5 war weaver.               so that i can cast a single healing/buff spell and affect the entire party and fifth allows me to cast heals at range.
2. bard                           gain 5th level spells for sand shaper.
1. sand shaper              for the buffs (bull strenght ect)
4. recaster                     purely so i can get favour of the martyr and one other spell possible resurrection as we are missing that..
1 bard                            I have enough classes here already XD.

feats.
1 melodic casting
3 enlarge spell
6 touchstone
9 maximise spell
12 ??
15 ??
18 ??

apart from the ranks i need to put into pre requirements for the prestiges and ranks in my preform which are:
craft weaving 6
Knowledge arcane 6.
knowledge nature4,
survival 4,
Spellcraft 8
preform max at all time.
I want it to be a party face so diplomocy, bluff ect.

Opinions on how this would work out or how to improve?

Bard is a decent buffer, and a Wand of Cure Light Wounds is decent healing.  So that gives you more than enough cover, to then go whatever concept it is you're working on.

War Weaver guide here has some of what you want

War Weaver guide back at old wotc c.o. has some more

... seems most of the Bard builds go for higher level spells first, then WW5.  That doesn't mean you have to go that way.  It certainly isn't necessary/mandatory home game wise.  You could build back in the higher level spell access after ww5, working better at what you want, the same when the whole she-bang comes together.

For my money,  I'd probably pick between War Weaver or Bard.  You're already contemplating things that add spells to your list.  At that point, I think an arcane War Weaver, with some healing spells and a few other spells cherry-picked would be a substantially better buffer with his spells than a Bard would be.

On the other hand, an optimized buffer Bard is, in its own right, a sight to behold.  So, that's good, too.

Kind of like what A_DM_G said above, I think you're not going to be thrilled with this hybrid approach.  Assuming you really want to play a Bard, I'd go for an optimized buffer Bard.  They come prepackaged with healing, and you can throw some character resources at augmenting that as well.

This may sound contrary, but I'd go with a bardsader (bard/crusader multiclass). You'll get unlimited out of combat healing via the crusader's boxing with the party members, and can use your spells for more useful things. :D It only really takes one level of crusader, also, which is handy because it can qualify you for Song of the White Raven which lets you activate your bardic music as a swift action.

If you want a bard focused on casting, add at least one level of Sublime Chord to your original build, then progress it with the other PrCs to get 9th level spells.

This is huge. Also Dragonfire Inspiration isn't bad and there's a prc that lets you sing 2 sons at once with a short dip and a bit of a CL loss, can't remember the name atm since I'm away from books.

Seeker of the Song. Complete Arcane.

Level 2 of the class gets you the twin song ability.

Hearthfire Fanner as well, I think (Dragon Magazine).
