Mostly though, it's the fact I yo-yo between highly excited about something (Witness the homebrew production when I first showed back up), and burning out. And currently I'm right on the edge of the latter. Which longtime residents will remember for causing me to have a five year absence from the boards the last time it hit hard.

And there's always something else to turn to creatively (I write short stories and novels, for example), so I wander off and do that instead. Which, admittedly, I need to do anyway, I'm just avoiding for reasons that don't have anything to do with D&D.

Have them start as 20th Level PC's running a bar in some afterlife or other where the average day is trying not to get involved in the little domestic spats between gods and demons they aren't powerful enough to confront physically.

I'm sorry man, that's a kind of stubbornness that is hard to struggle against. If they are fun to play with besides, then I guess just roll with it. And, maybe find another group or an online group for some more high-level play. Alternatively, shift game systems, maybe? There might be some absurd logjam tendencies that are stuck in their heads with respect to D&D.

My best to all of you with more serious issues in your lives. I don't have anything really helpful to say, which is usually why I don't comment on them much, but you have my sympathy and my empathy and my best wishes.
