Hmm, while I feel I may be an inferior pick (and don't want to compete with Strato anyway) should I run my idea by you anyway?  Since I don't feel confident in my Eberron lore I was thinking of playing a warforged who was given the task to mine.  And mine he did.  For a very long time.  After all, no one told him to stop.  But his original creators have already passed on.  By the time he accidentally dug back to the surface, he finally realized how much time had passed and that he had no new orders.  After mulling it over and probably several unsuccessful attempts at getting re-employment as a miner he decided since he was now free he'll have to do something.  Well, money is power, so he's heard so first thing first he's on a quest to get money yet has no idea what end goal he's getting money for.

So yeah, warforged with a pickaxe was the idea.  Probably focused on sundering or digging or mining related things of any sort.
So long as he's done some actual adventuring in the interim, which might have piqued the interests of potential employers (and I doubt mining would have gotten you to 4th level  :P) that's fine by me.  The adventuring requirement has more to do with the hook than anything else (if you read the game thread, you'll start to see why).

Oh yeah, between underground dangers he needed to fight off and the uncertain period of time between "I should make money" and "now" I'm sure he's been doing plenty of mercenary/adventuring work.  I'll throw together something just in case Strato doesn't get in.
Mudada.

As an added hook, you may want to add references to Khyber into your character's background. It's the vast, underground realm that often stands in for the Underdark, and would work thematically well with a miner, especially one who had to fight off subterranean dangers. Coming out of that situation alive would definitely qualify your character as "of interest" to people such as whoever is trying to hire us.

Would it be possible to swap out the spontaneous Summon Nature's Ally for Summon Desert Ally?

I'll flesh this out further throughout the day, but Strongheart Halfling Druid 4, SF: Conjuration (1), Augment Summoning (b), Ashbound Summoning (3). Also, as a request, would it be possible to swap out the ability to spontaneously cast Summon Desert Ally spells from Sandstorm for Summon Nature's Ally?
I'm obviously missing something; how are you getting Augment Summoning as a bonus feat?
Wait, I think I figured it out.  This is from a flaw, isn't it?
Nevermind.  Strongheart Halfling.  It's late, and I have a headache  :p

I don't see why not.

Oh good. :)

And yeah, snagged Strongheart because I didn't really want to go trolling through all the Druid ACFs to find one appropriate for summoning.

Speaking of Druid ACFs, would Wasteland Druid from Sandstorm be acceptable? It replaces Woodland Stride with Sandskimmer (move faster in desert environments), Resist Nature's Lure with Heat Endurance, and loses the 10th level use per day of Wildshape to gain access to desert vermin as wildshape options.

And now to figure out the part of D&D I'm least skilled at - gear. Suggestions on this front are always massively appreciated.

Those ACF's should be fine.

Gear... keep in mind the weapon enhancement rules we are using (pay for a flaming scimitar, and you get a +1 flaming scimitar; pay for a flaming burst scimitar, and you get a +2 flaming burst scimitar. Same concept for armor.)

Other than that... whatever floats your boat.  You're starting in Sharn; of anyplace (aside from Sigil) in all the D&D multiverse, there is where you'll find it.  Starting wealth of 5,400 gp.

Character should be good to go now. If there's anything that needs finishing, let me know.

Ǽlǽtan looks pretty good.  Congrats, you got the spot.  Go ahead and post the character in the character sheet thread.  Wait for me to restart things (likely Tuesday; I have a live game on Monday nights) before you start posting in the game thread.  I'll get you introduced in the next post or two, but right now the party is just standing in an alley. (My next post or two will get them where they are going).

Figures. Copy-pasta error. :facepalm

Oh, one last thing - I'm debating between a Serval and a Fleshraker as the Animal Companion - They're both listed as desert companions, but I know the Fleshraker is kind of cheesy. Preference?

My preference is don't use Venomfire?  :P  Other than that, I don't care if you use a Fleshraker.

Interesting... Fleshrakers are listed as being from forested terrain.  I'd never given a thought to it before.  It doesn't matter, just interesting.

Believe it or not, you aren't high enough level to have a deinonychus animal companion... You have to be a 7th level druid for that.  But you are high enough level for a fleshraker.   :lmao
